Indeed! I am off tomorrow, so I will be enjoying the evening. I just need to buy some libations myself, so I'm not stuck gagging on the Heineken-light my girlfriend bought.

Heh! I, too, am amazingly off on a Monday--so the libations will indeed flow! There are four Guinness in the fridge, and I intend on enlarging that margin tomorrow... ^__^

I think I will be buying some beer on my way home. Maybe a good German lager.

A good Bock would probably fit the bill...

Yeah, that would be what I was in the mood for, but I've got schwarzbier on the brain. Maybe a case of Köstritzer Schwarzbier, one of my favorites.

By the way, I ended up going with the Köstritzer Schwarzbier. Here's a review I found to give you an idea: "This is a well-respected example of the German dark lager style known as Schwarzbier. It does indeed look almost black, but is in fact a very dark brown colour when held up to the light, with a pale, fine-bubbled and lasting head. Nose is of dark malt, roast coffee, black treacle and dark dried fruit. It is quite lively in the mouth, with initially a somewhat lactic taste of creamy coffee, but quickly developing into rich, malty and dark but slightly sour fruity flavours - figs, blackcurrants, black cherries, black treacle, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, bitter dark-roast coffee (still with a dash of cream) and a touch of hop. The more bitter of these flavours (coffee, chocolate, hops) increase in intensity towards the finish, though still tempered by sweeter red fruit notes. Aftertaste is a gorgeous lingering malty bitterness, much like a dry stout, with a warming, spicy touch that wouldn't be out of place in a much stronger beer. A thoroughly lovely experience from start to finish."

Wow, that beer sounds fabulous, Scott. I've got to see if I can find some. Dang, sorry I missed this discussion - being a fan of dark, stout or bock beers (and I recently posted a question about good bocks over at Rob's forum) and White Russians!! ;D My latest version of a WR is Starbuck's Frapuccino (mint chocolate, vanilla or caramel) and wodka - with a splash of milk! Yummy. Sheesh, just got my gas bill for the last month - winter be gone, dagnabit!

I first tried Köstritzer while staying in Thuringia where it is brewed. It took me a while to find a place around here where I could buy it. I finally found a distributor that would order it for me. The 'tz' on the label look like a 'k' and I've noticed a lot of people mispronounce it 'Köstriker'. For drinking, I really like white Russians, I actually used to date a White Russian, but I digress. I ended up going with the Köstritzer because it really goes well with a meal, which white Russians do not, IMO, and I was in the mood for some beer and beer food. Since I've got my fix, maybe I'll go for the white Russoans next.
