Oh, don't worry--I wasn't going to suggest basing a deity on "the son of El"! ^__^

I hope that I'm not coming across as a "dick" here--I'm trying to consolidate (a) what Gary has said, (b) historical perspective, (c) what I think, and (c) what everyone else interprets... I can see where the multitude of ideas at TSR in the old days could cause a lot of debate! ^__^

Can you imagine a board meeting with Gary (Greyhawk), Rob (Kalibruhn), Frank (Aquaria), Len (Lendore), and the others back in say 1983 trying to determine what direction to go?

What a dick! Carry on...I'll vaporize you after you're finished... I'm not sure what you mean, so far everythings still up in the air and we can crop it back at a later point unless its rancidly "unGreyhawkish", right? Spew more out!

Too bad we can't buy the IP outright and meet in our own board room with the beverage of choice and hammer things out directly! Heh!! ^__^

Of course, we'd have to kidnap Gary and administer sodium pentothal to him to get him to "talk"--- "Ya Hear That Gar-Bear!!! I'm Comin' For Ya!!!" Just Kidding!! (Copyright: Gene Weigel)

I had somee of those described to me and it seemed that GH development was done "informally" around town at best or one-on-one when it was at the corporate offices.

Yeah; Gary had the final say until the '85/'86 era; but a bar could serve as a board room back then! ^__^ (It could with Mythus, too )

When we were walking back to the conference room from the bar/restaurant on the evening after the earlier derailed "plane project" meeting, Bill was singled out and propositioned to "help Gene out" about that financial matter! Thats why they disappeared for a while. Of course, he wasn't aware that Bil has a limited (in his own words) "Johnny Lunchpail income"! You can't make this stuff up!

No sweat. That's exactly what this little think tank is for. I’m definitely in the minority with the Turkic view. The Arab inspired Baklunish is the predominant viewpoint; it was mine for a long time. I’m just not seeing a historical perspective that supports this. Some of the names are shared between the Arab and Turk cultures, but everything else I can see points to a Turkic parallel: khan as a title, steppe dwelling nomads, light cavalry all mirror one aspect of the Turkic tribes, and the powerful Baklunish Empire representing the Ottoman Empire. The settled Baklunish could really go either way, but the big picture was what swayed me.

Gary Welsh wrote a little snippet about interrogating a cryogenically imprisoned EGG. I sent it to EGG and he got a pretty big kick out of it. You don’t still have that do you, Grash?

In my opinion, the facts for this project are this:
A) A polytheistic pantheon of weird quasi-oriental gods that need more real world "Western" Oriental elements
B) There is a culture like Islam but devoid of real world religious factors so cultural minutiae is irrelevant to the development of these gods for the most part
C) At least one deity must be made for the fanatical LG dervishes
D) Adventure and dynamic action and gameplay must be an element of any product

For the Baklunish, and tribal societies in general, I think a small core inter-tribe pantheon would exist, and then a ton of lesser/demi-god given varying ammounts of reverance by different tribes. Tengri, or whatever head of pantheon, would be the god credited with originating the Baklunish people in general, Tawwat might be the patroness to one very unpopular tribe.

That and Azz-shola make up the TEEUHNAY trinity with Tawwat being the mystery component... ALRIGHT ENOUGH!!! But.... Gene is about to scan a sketch of a creature labeled "Baklunish Love Elemental" who is just a derriere with four wings.

Perhaps we should contemplate some of the other mysteries of the Flanaess for a bit.
