Got my tickets officially registered and confirmed for the following:
Thurs noon-1:30pm - Gamechangers: When D&D Met Hollywood (seminar - Luke Gygax & Flint Dille) Thurs 2-4pm - Dungeon! (boardgame - hosted by Dave Megarry)
Fri 10-11:30am - Growing Up Gygax (seminar - Gygax family & Gene Weigel) Fri 1-6pm - Don't Give Up the Ship! (minis - hosted by Mike Carr) Fri 7-11pm - Source of the Nile (boardgame - hosted by Ross Maker)
Sat 10am-2pm - Boot Hill (minis - hosted by Allen Hammack) Sat 2-6pm - Cavaliers & Roundheads (minis - hosted by Jeff Perren)
So I'm free for socializing, shopping, off-grid games, and touring the Lake Geneva sights (or adding more events) on Thursday morning and evening and Saturday evening (though the latter might be cut short since I'm flying out very early Sunday morning).
Hope to see and hang out with you all as much as possible!

Here's what I got -- so far everything is on Thursday and Friday:
THURSDAY
10 AM to Noon: LEGENDS: DUNGEON! with Dave Megarry, Evergreen 2, 16 players divided up among four games 1 PM to 5 PM: DEAD MAN'S CHEST with DM Elise Gygax-Cousino, Room 4311, 6 players doing a favor for the Pirate Queen (wasn't that a nickname for Mary Jo Gygax?)
FRIDAY
10 AM to 11:30: GROWING UP GYGAX, Michael Witwer leads discussion with Gygax family, Swinghurst 2 PM to 4 PM: JASMINE: BATTLE FOR THE MID-REALM, with Darlene, Linwood, 4 players 6 PM to 8 PM: TSR ARTISTS PANEL, Swinghurst
I feel pretty lucky with what I got so far, and I don't need to fill up my schedule for the entire four days. I'm also going to leave some free time open.
I'm going to have a GYGAX FOR A DM... Let that sink in for a minute, one of the original playtesters of the Greyhawk Dungeon! WOW!

The games sound good but I just want to chill out totally on game schedules. Run scenarios every day most likely.

Good catch on that Elise Gygax event - I totally overlooked it! I saw a bunch with Ernie, but they were all already filled, and also had 12 players each which in my experience tends to produce substandard play experiences.

I honestly have no idea what the open gaming situation is like but I'll just plop down somewhere. I saw "walkups" with the green/red flags so I might do that.

Friday is going to be the big seminar day for me and there is the artist's gathering after the TSR Artists thing. I was thinking drawing live might be cool.

Yes, I also was checking out Ernie's games but had the same thought: 12 players is too many. Those high player numbers at tournaments always make me wonder if that is where the 'caller' idea for the party came from.
Based on the FB chatter, it looks like the ski chalet where the artists' gathering will be is also where much of the open (unscheduled or unregistered) gaming can be done for pick up games during the entire convention.

Thats really what killed many problem sessions for me. Too many cooks.

Hope to see and hang out with you all as much as possible! That Gamechangers seminar sounds interesting, but unfortunately my flight gets in around that time. I played in one of Megarry's sessions a few years ago. It's short and fun. He talks about the history of the game, shows off some artifacts, and then you divide into groups and each play the game on set of 1st printings that he still owns. I'd never seen the earlier version (I had the long box), so it was neat looking at the original rules (and I was able to take pictures of each page). There are a bunch of Gygaxian examples of play that they left out of later versions. Your other games sound great, but are not ones I've gotten a chance to play yet. I've seen Mike Carr refereeing his Ship game a few times, he always seems to be having a blast sitting in the middle of a blue carpet surrounded by warships. This year to balance out the D&D I loaded up on Sci-Fi RPGs that I never get to play elsewhere (Star Frontiers, Metamorphosis Alpha, Traveller etc).

I played in Darlene's card game last year. It's pretty complex, but she's there teaching you how to play. I somehow won and would play again. There's some neat world-building she did for the setting. I actually bought a set from her a few years ago at NTRPRG Con. She still has original stock for sale, and when you play in her game it's on one of the original decks; it's never been reprinted.

Around ten years ago, I looked up Darlene online and found her website and complimented her on her artwork. I then ordered her JASMINE card game and she sent it to me along with a card with my name in calligraphy and a personalized note thanking me for my kind comments. It is one of my treasures... Sadly I haven't got around to playing the game yet. So, I am excited to learn how to play from Darlene herself, and then teach my friends back in the Pittsburgh area how to play. I usually host a game night at my house every other Saturday, and we rotate DMs, RPGs, board games, card games, etc.
I'm looking forward to meeting the other TSR artists as well. Their artwork had a huge impact on my appreciation for the RPGs and other games, and still does!

Getting in on those games with Mike Carr, Allen Hammack and Jeff Perren is great simply for historical purposes. What I mean by that is you will now get to say you gamed with the authors of B1: IN SEARCH OF THE UNKNOWN, C2: THE GHOST TOWER OF INVERNESS, and the co-author of CHAINMAIL! Mike Carr, the Bishop of Blackmoor, Saint Carmichael... Allen Hammack, the guy who made up the Soul Gem (which turned my monk's hair white in 1984)... Jeff Perren, for whom Perrenland is named! I don't actually care about the historical miniatures games they designed or that they will be playing, except maybe BOOT HILL. I might observe these games for part of the time, as long as there is no rule or etiquette against that.

I just asked about observing and Skip Williams answered saying its cool as long as you don't block traffic, etc. I talked to Ernie and he says they're building a space for the original Dungeon Hobby Shop as a museum but its not the well known store space on Main Street. It won't be ready for the con though. The dine in place that Gary recommended to me last time is out of biz so Ernie told me where to get the best coffee in town. This is insider information...

The Hobby Shop on Main is still there but it only looks the same on top. The wood facade is gone and they had to renovate most of the interior. He said it was sinking. So if you get a head shot looking up it'll be just like the 70's!

Just traded emails with GT - I was asking permission to use some of his monster writeups (the other 7 quasi-elementals) in my book - and mentioned that the three of us were all going to be at GaryCon and encouraged him to drive up and hang with us. It sounds like he might be thinking about it...

In addition, I think it's cool that all of the games - Don't Give Up the Ship, Boot Hill, and Cavaliers & Roundheads - were co-written by Gary, which seems appropriate at an event dedicated to his legacy. My schedule didn't allow for any Chainmail or Tractics games. Maybe next time
