Just text me (on FB). I can't hand out my number online because I'm currently avoiding "I don't understand why he isn't talking to me. He is so selfish, right? Great! Can I stay at your place for a couple of years then?" type relatives.
Foster, I'll be glad to give you a lift, if I'm not currently doing something, so don't be shy.

If I have alcohol though I won't get into a car for a while so make plans around that.

I don't know what time you plan to start drinking, but I was picturing the sightseeing tour happening before noon on either Thursday or Friday

Every hour is "drinking hour"! Uh... So this is why Gene is not on the forums all the time... Seriously, I don't drink at all and I don't really smoke but I will do both. I have gotten totally bombed DMing but the results were not satisfying. Well, not satisfying in a classic sword and sorcery way. Maybe in a comedic way. Rule number one for me is I don't partake and drive as a major default and I won't be getting in any sketchily driven vehicles (or stopping anyone either! Not my business.). Rule number two for me is never partake anything questionable. Two years ago, I had to clean up someone else's royal mess while bombed on god knows what so I'm not polite when it comes to joining in.

Hey Foster, this is my first time to Lake Geneva as well, so I also want to do some sight-seeing. I'll be happy to give you a ride any time I'm not busy, so just call or text me at 412-491-7842. I don't yet know my schedule since silver badge registration hasn't re-opened yet, but I'll post it here once I do.

I wonder what the weather is going to be? Right now "Weather.com" is saying:
Wed 49/Thurs 49/Fri 50/Sat 50/Sun 50
So that is warmer than I thought.
I went on the "2007 Gary tour" to see the spots but its a blur (I should have recorded it but I didn't realize the camera that I had brought with me had HD video!). The only one that I recall was I think he lived up the street from the Dungeon Hobby Shop at one point. I recall him saying the buildings were mostly the same but different shops.
Aside from the tour, in the smoking area outside of the Cove, he pointed out the direction of where he lived in the 80's but I don't know where it is. It looked south in the middle of the lake.
I think my biggest problem with the 2007 trip was my mind was racing with getting juicy tidbits. I wish that I had never said anything about Keep on the Borderlands because as wonderful as it all sounded as to how he came up with the different situations, I really wanted to get his opinions on roleplaying as a phenomena outside his scope.
For example, I once crudely mistook "Steve Perrin" for "Jeff Perren" and his reaction was essentially one of I don't deal with what other people make. So from my perception, I was more exposed to the roleplaying phenomena than he was or he was just being polite.
Upfront, Ernie from my experience will answer rapid fire questions.
Luke, I don't even remember talking to but I must have at one point in GenCon 2002.
Jim Ward seemed busy every time. I didn't get a word in.
That IFW Bobek guy was friendly but I really didn't know what to ask.

It's Wisconsin, so I'm just going to assume "final blizzard of the year" and anything better as a pleasant surprise.
"Quick, get out your WILDERNESS SURVIVAL GUIDE!" "I never bought one... I always thought they were boring and worthless!"

It has usually snowed over GaryCon most years, but that's definitely balmy in comparison to previous Marches there! You can definitely see some of the main buildings, and I have some good visit/tour articles saved locally. Will dig around this weekend to see if they're still live online, or only on the Internet Archive. Allan.

I went on the "2007 Gary tour" to see the spots but its a blur (I should have recorded it but I didn't realize the camera that I had brought with me had HD video!). The thing about "video" was Gary had made innuendos about film best left to the professionals a number of times so that was the real stop gap on that. Not that he in any way was vulgar or was hiding anything. I honestly think that he expected me to be more vulgar in person than on the phone but I was on my best behavior. I was surprised at how polite he was despite the fact that he had this thing where he refused to come to people's homes if they said he couldn't smoke. I had inquired about that and he was very convincing. Polite but individualistic.

UPDATE: It looks like they've rescheduled silver badge registration for Sunday, March 1st, at 6 PM CT/7 PM EST. Good, I'm going to sign up for the Gygax family talk for sure. Is there anything else that I should be aware of? How do they set these things up? I should do a D&D Ted talk... the "1974 to 2024: 50 years of existentialism in fantasy and the greater alignment conundrum"...

What day and time is the Gygax family seminar? If I’m not already signed up for something else at the same time that sounds like a good one. I’m also signed up for the one where Luke and Flint Dille are going to talk about Gary’s time in LA, on Thursday at noon.

Found the “Growing up Gygax” seminar, at 10:00 on Friday morning. I’ll try to add it to my schedule when registration re-opens later today. I see that the moderator for that is Michael Witwer, who wrote the “Empire of Imaginaton” Gygax biography, which reminded me that the inside cover of that book has a module-style map of Lake Geneva including locations and specific street addresses of most of the key Gygax/TSR-related locations. I’ll bring my copy of that along to use as a guide for the tour

I just had a panic attack about Gary Con registration about 15 minutes ago because I threw my cell phone in the corner this morning to zone out (Goofing off mostly.). Its a good thing that I came out of it just now.
So I'm prepping now by investigating what there is.

Gary Gygax documentary screening Thurs 8 to 10?
Sounds good but I can always watch it another time.
Fri 6 to 8 pm TSR Artists panel talks about the good old days.
Is this a q&a? I don't know. Larry Elmore was kind of dull in person.
