I was just on Google Earth to check out the spot where they had Gary Con I at the American Legion Hall and that was one of the first places he stopped on the historic bus tour (or as I called it: "Gary the Ride" ), I can't believe its the same place. Wow! That place was really small from what I remember. No wonder I got it confused. Anyway, that legion Hall is between15-16 blocks North of the front of the hotel where they had LGGC and 12 blocks North of where the Dungeon hobby Shop was and less than ten blocks from anywhere Gary lived over there. Except for that mansion he lived in (from some story that he was telling me in the smoking lounge) which I think he was pointing across the lake. Outside of the majority of ye olde TSR locales, the college they used for a GenCon is on the far northwest end of the lake and another GenCon the playboy club (now a resort) is not too far from TSR haunts as soon as you get out of the streets to the NE. Unless they decide to shift to that college where they had another GenCon (78-85? prime AD&D years) in Kenosha which is kinda of straight out to the Great Lakes from LG, its all in the same vicinity.

I went to GenCon in 84 (the last year in Kenosha). The year we were there was the last in Wisconsin. In 84, I know we were in Lake Geneva, but have no memories of anything except the Con itself.

The weird thing about that LGGC hotel is that they were saying that a lot of that area with all the hotels was woods back in the early days. That made a lot more sense because its kind of built up different from the way that I imagined it would be. You know like a "woodsy backdrop kind of thing" not too far from the hobby shop, etc.. So LG isn't exactly LG of yore but its fucking close to it! I still want to try one of those "butter burger" things whatever the fuck that is!

What you speak is sooth. I now stay in Delavan; maybe 15 or 20 minutes away. That way, I get to see some "countryside" (like I grew up with in Indiana) and pay about half as much for a quality-hotel! ^__^

Oh, and GW--Tony and I decided to walk from the Legion Hall to "town" and get some Subway sandwiches (the folks there had treated us exceptionally well on a prior visit!) and we got caught by a cold sleet! Ahhh, well--"The brave man enjoys the feel of weather on his face!" (Heh! And the smart man knows "when to come in from the rain"!)

Scott--I went to Kenosha in '81, but there were GenCon's in Milwaukee post 80s; I went to the last one there and the first one in Indy [you and Gene were there, I think] (unimpressed with both---WAAYYYY too crowded, and though I found Gary, Rob and Alan, I never found you two!!) ^__^

That was jumbled a bit. I was talking about 2 seperate cons. By 'we' I meant GW and me at the 2002 ??? GenCon.

in addition to doing a little creative touring, I think there should be a scheduled discussion about Greyhawk too.
