I've been planning the gary memorial game this weekend and boy its driving me nuts.
One wants a low level game another wants to get into his old character and the other always wants to play the same character. I'm bringing this up here as they've been watching the forum lately.
I was thinking Expedition to Barrier peaks. Nobody remembers that every time I bring it up they talk like they never played but i know they did I've got the records of the sessions and experience. i think they have it blurred out with all the sci-fi crap that i did back in the 80's that I mentioned over the years: a "V'GERed" NASA astronaut's wizard tower/ the trip to the moon to fight "Alien" aliens/the Dragon magazine time tunnel adventure/ "CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER/A PIECE OF THE ACTION" type Gangbusters crossover as well as other "temporal incidents".
Its good that nobody remembers it but what if it all comes back?
Drag them through Castle Zagyg? Hall of Many Panes? At least that haven't done these.

If I was going to pick one, and I thought I could get away with it, I'd pick Tomb of Horrors. If they were familiar enough with that, I'd have to give it some more thought. Barrier Peaks is odd enough that even if the fact that they played it beofe comes back, it still might not help.

They know TOH too well. Taylor DMed it at least twice. I was thinking of that first but if I muddled it too much it wouldn't be much of a tribute. I was thinking doing the original Tsojcanth with a different ending. Maybe make it a combination of different classics like Tharizdun and TOH.

S1, B2, and G3 are probably the modules with the most Gary-ness. For this type of one-shot memorial game, I'd prefer something higher level. So my next option would be G3. Tsojcanth is great too, but the surprise is such a big part of it. Converting a portion of Necropolis is a thought. Isle of the Ape is good for Gygax content.

I was thinking G2 and G3 but about 4 years we retread G1 so it would be kind of repetitious. The ending of Tsojcanth with Tharizdun dressing and Acererak's clone just seemed alright til i just said it out loud! The Necropolis is huge, of course, the tomb of rahotep would be completely new if I just used that.

I can't recall anyone ever mentioning that they've run Isle of the Ape for their group. I'd love to hear about someone doing so with a group of veteran players. [Haha, I just looked at the module and remembered it's for chars 18+ ~ I wanna be Agath of Thrunch, ready for lunch!]

I'm getting a headache figuring out how to convert that. Mebbe I should dig out the D20 one or do you think thats going to make me pull my teeth out even more?

What Necropolis? The D20 would probably be a better base to work with for converting to AD&D.

They probably use skills for a lot in the d20 version too. I'll just have to absorb it more to make it ad&d for the skills parts. I think perhaps I should revise the monsters without the conversion it might take the fun out of it!

I think I'm going to just do a confusing spin on Drelnza and do "TSOJCONTH" that way it'll keep it in the zone and technically be something they haven't played literally.
Have three bodies: One Drelnza one innocent and one Iggwilv. Now that'll be interesting to see.

So, didja game then? If so, who lived, who died and who rescued the princess and got the gold?
