What to do with the chamber that the pechs are delving a staircase towards? The PCs are very curious about this. Any ideas/recommendations? Regards.

Make it a level that was originally only reachable via teleport. It could have been Iggwilv's personal abode, or it could be the resing place of the wizard Tsojcanth. Scott

For some reason I always thought that there was a dragon up there---is that something from the module??

Nothing in my copy of the module mentions a dragon. It could be in the original tournement version, or something somebody else added. Scott

I always pictured it to be the lost rooms/caverns of Tsjocanth proper. Where more devastating magic could be find, perhaps portals to other worlds/planes and strange wards/guardians with a sprinkle of magical items. No traces of Iggwilv there.

Could you check the tournament version, too?
S1-4 wasn't done by Gygax, was it? I suppose I would still be curious to see what they did.
Thanks.

Could you check the tournament version, too? The original tourney has none of the new-to-1e encounters like pechs, though it does feature "new" monsters subsequently published in the MM. The pechs cavern isn't even mentioned in the original, and that cave is much more blobular in shape vs. long and thin and more accomodating to stairs. No it wasn't by EGG (it was by William John Wheeler), but for S4 Wheeler actually added a fair amount of detail to the module (the wilderness encounters in particular). There isn't any detail at all in S1-4 about what the pechs are up to, though, so I guess I dreamed up the dragon (for some reason I recall them digging to a dragon's lair/hoard and the dragon was supposed to already be dead.....).

Hey, it’s been 14 years, has anybody come up with anything? My party ran into the pechs tonight and talked about coming back to check on their progress later. It could be a balrog.
