I voted for AD&D, but I'm really about half-way between that and AD&D with the UA. If I had to choose between AD&D by the book or AD&D + UA as it is, I would choose AD&D though, as I don't use all of the UA stuff and a lot of what I do use is altered.

AD&D only for me. Too many "odd" things in the UA have made me reconsider using any of it. Perhaps when i have some time to take another look I might use some. I just hate using SOME of a core book. Seems like it should be all or nothing.

Nah. That's another cool thing about pre-3e D&D. I can start with the AD&D PH and DMG wholesale, simplify the rules a little a la Holmes, throw in a rule or three that I like from UA (in the case of Unarmored Combat I, there's another simplification), a weapon or two from OA, and even an idea or two published under 2e, and I still have a plenty-swell-"balanced" game. :-) Regards.

I choose AD&D. There are a few things in the UA I would keep handy, but most of all I don't use it. For a while I was, (and still am in a way) a Basic/Expert fan. However, more and more as I read this forum and others like it, I begin to understand rules I once did not, or thought too complicated. I am about ready to say that I have now come full circle, back to my roots, that being the Original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.

AD&D core rules is my favorite... I mean the three basic books. There is a certain rough yet pedantic charm to them, and they make a nice and self-contained system. Best of all, they capture that golden age of gaming. UA has some good spells and a few good ideas, but that's about it. I would have liked it better if it just expanded upon, but did not break and revise the earlier rules and especially the tone... Drow elf player characters? 9d6 drop the lowest six rolls? Please.

I voted AD&D with UA but I'll only use little bit of that books. (cantrips, magic items..)
Things that doesn't change the core system but simple additions.
