I ran my first session of Mythus the other night. Kept it basic. Really just an endeavor to become more familiar with the mechanics. The group consisted of two cavaliers (Anthony and Cassius) and a soldier (Brutus). The setting was a small village close to Rome. A short seek and destroy involving a small group of bandits. Anthony was the only HP with a heka generating k/s (religion). My first impressions are that combat can take a LONG time to resolve. The magic system seems very interesting, but none of the players choose a heka-oriented vocation, so I'll have to wait a bit longer to find out. The HPs first encounter was with a group of 6 bandits. There was no surprise. The first round half the bandits fired crossbows while Anthony tried a prayer cantrip. Cassius and Brutus closed to attack. None of the missile attacks hit, and the cantrip fizziled. The folowing minutes were a back and forth slug fest until finally all of the bandits were killed. The cavaliers barely took a scratch, but Brutus was close to death by the end. The more I get familiat with the rules, the more I realize that the TSR lawsuit was bunk. The lengths that were taken to avoid any similarities with D&D are obvious. It's actually one of the games drawbacks. The terms that are used to avoid sounding similar to D&D can grate a bit, but so far, that's my only real complaint. Scott

It can be long--especially if you have a lot of players! But, as they become accustomed to the system, it does speed up a bit. Kind of like rolling up your HP! ^__^

The system is great for very small combats, but gets unwieldy once you add a few combatants. Imagine a scene similar to the final encounter in T1 with 18 troops, 3 sergeants, the lieutenant, and Lareth. One thing I really need to consider is the initiative method. Individual initiative really slows things down. After a few CTs, my players were asking for group initiative. Scott
