Hallo everybody! I'm new to this forum, my english isn't the best, but I hope if I write something, you will understand my phrase. I'm playing OAD&D since 1994. By the use of DragonsFoot-Forum I've learned many things about the system.
Now, after searching, I still have a question about the Con-HP-Bonus.
Say, If my 5th level Fighter has a CON of 17 (+3 per HD), and lose two points of Constitution (15, +1 HP Bonus) does it mean he will lose the Bonus-difference per HD?In other words, will he lose with the new Con 10 HP ( 5 x 2) ?
I think it is, but i can't find any clearifications in the books.

That is correct mephisto. The fighter would lose 10 HPs. The bonus is oer HD.

Thank you for the fast answer, Scott. I have two additional questions. 1. )What if my Character is a Dual Class Fi/ Thief with Levels 5 / 7? Would he lose in this case 10 Hp ( from the Fighter) and one per HD from the Thief ( because the Thief only has a bonus of +2 on a stat of 17) If he would I think he would lose 12 HP, because the Thieve only have roled for HP on level 6 & 7, correct? 2.) Now the Character is a bard of actual 2nd Level with 5 fighter-levels, and 7 of the thief. Would he then lose 14 Hps? (by the way: If the bard changes from fighter to Thief (with a Consti of 17), willthe fighter-hp remain, or will they drop, because the thief doesn't get the +3 bonus. Now, if i think about that I'm a little bit confused )

For question 1, if the character gained 5 levels as a fighter first, then 7 as a thief, he should have acquired HD as follows: 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d6+2 + 1d6+2. If his con dropped from 17 to 16 his gained HD would look like this: 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d6+2 + 1d6+2. A loss of 5 HPs. Question 2: HD Progression: 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d10+3 + 1d6+2 + 1d6+2 + 1d6+2. A drop of Con from 17 to 16 would look like this: 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d10+2 + 1d6+2 + 1d6+2 + 1d6+2. Also a drop of 5 HPs. For the final 'by the way' any HP gained as a fighter would retain the Fighter's better Con bonus. Any additional HD would recieve the +2 bonus.

Thank you again.
That was very helpfull. My calculation was based on a dropping Con from 17 to 15. But I understand your example where Con is dropped from 17 to 16.
So, if a cavalier finaly raise his Con for example from 17 to 18 at 10th Level, he would get 10 additional hps, right? Very nice...

If a cavalier gets 10 full HD, then that would be correct.
