As a DM, how do you handle this? When the party enters a room, and a player states, "We search for secret doors", what do you do? Give one roll for the party? Require more detail as to how the party is searching, and then give one roll to each character that might have a chane? Something else?

I've traditionally given any player that has a chance a roll, unless they specifically state that they are not searching (this sometimes happens when one player wants to speed things up a bit!) Of course, it's best when your party's only 4 - 7 players. My current party is only 3 active players, but two have been around since 1979... ^__^

Old message but what the hay.
I had to become very strict with my players as to what each is doing and where he is at any given time. This includes secret doors. I would get alot of "We open the door" and "Wait! I wasn't in the room yet!" stuff. I figure it always best to corner them.

Welcome to Doomsday, gantry. The, "Wait! I wasn't in the room yet!" stuff is the main reason I like to use minis when we play.
