I just started this by downloading the sample on Kindle. I have no idea what it is about, but I liked her books THE TWISTED ONES (2019) and THE HOLLOW PLACES (2020) which I read a couple of years ago, so I thought I'd try another one. I love starting a horror novel when I don't know what it is about. Her previous books were homages to Machen and Blackwood respectively, without being imitative. I like the way she describes details of mundane life in the South for her characters. She writes real page-turners.

I picked this up at the library and read two chapters outside the coffee shop in Saxonburg. I also bought an almond sugar cookie from the Greek Orthodox (Nativity of the Theotokos) nuns who were sitting outside, and I should have asked them what this cookie is called, because it's excellent. Kourabiedes (Greek Almond Cookies), maybe? Anyway, the book seems to be a slow burn story about a haunted house, which is exactly what I was wanting to read.
