This weekend I am in California for a family wedding in Chowchilla and I’m staying in Merced. Yesterday I hiked in Yosemite Valley with my sister and brother in law. It was my third time in Yosemite and I we took many photos and videos. That is one of the most ‘fantasy’ places I’ve ever been to in terms of D&D or wilderness imagination. It’s truly inspiring. Even my brother in law (whose main idea of fantasy is fantasy football) could imagine a castle on Roosevelt Point!

Well, that sounds really interesting. Heh, I turned off the "ghost vids" and started watching missing people. A lot of hikers in the big parks. I'm thinking that rather than the easy "supernatural" cause that its some kind of an unknown sport for murderous criminals that is organized because there is a lot of strangeness that never gets wrapped up.

I spent a few stints in California, but never made it that far north. Yosemite is one of those bucket list places I hope to make it to one day.

The farthest West that I have been was last year when I went to that convention on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas.
I just checked on the map and the farthest East that I have ever been was Pompeii, Italy. I had thought it was Berlin, Germany but apparently its past that. That is weird.
Dorothy just burned time and money on her mom's breakdown so it looks like I won't be going anywhere besides the local swamp for a time.

We lived in the Bay Area for 5 years, but I don't think we made it to Yosemite. Allan.

I’ve only been to Yosemite once, which is embarrassing because I’ve lived here for 30 years and it’s only about a 5 or 6 hour drive away. I keep meaning to go back and take the wife (who I don’t think has ever been) but haven’t gotten around to it. I know for the last few years they were heavily limiting daily admissions (I think you had to get passes through a lottery that were only good for one specific day) but I don’t think they’re doing that anymore.
But yes, it’s an absolutely breathtaking and magical place, even when it’s packed with tourists.

Looks awesome. Almost like a real Rivendell.

I just returned from a trip to California, too. I stayed in northern LA County and traveled up to the desert. I was reminded of the great Frank Zappa lyric from San Ber'dino:
She lives in Mojave in a Winnebago His name is Bobby, he looks like a potato
Although this time of year, it was quite pleasant to be there, and the hills just north of LA were still pretty green from all the rain they'd gotten.
