What can we possibly say? My friend Henry called and wants to have a tribute game tonight but I nixed the idea. We should have a properly prepared adventure, I said. Gary would want it that way.

We can hoist a mug or glass of our favorite spirits in his honor, and play on!

We can hoist a mug or glass of our favorite spirits in his honor, and play on! Indeed, he would have liked that.

Yes, he sure would have. I once gave him a bottle of Bombay Sapphire as a gift, and I ended up in his Gen Con report that year as the "much beloved Scott Gregg".

Shit I might have to scrap the plan for the adventure that I've been working on and do a Gary adventure.
What was his last adventure?

I think Mouths of Madness was the last one released.

What about in the self-contained department? I'd like to run that particular one when its all in the can.

I was just reading all the schmaltz posts about Gary's openness and caring for the fans. Anybody remember my first encounter with Gary? Here it is "warts and all": He had seemingly invited me to come to a bar and then to his room for a game but in retrospect it was a general public invitation. I had just got there was waiting around for you (Scott) then I decided to go back up to the room to use the facilities. The plane ride and dealing with someone's "yepita-yepita-yepita-yepita" girlfriend that picked me up had really made me anxious so my stomach was upset. I'm waiting at the elevator then this old garishly dressed guy pulls up next to me. He's looking at me from his peripheral vision and I was about to tell him to fuck off. Then I turn to him and its Gary. I'm like: "Gary! Heyyy! Its me Gene." he turns to me with a look of disgust and states,"Gene? I'm tired." He walks into the elevator and the door slams in my face. I was mortified. I didn't even know what to say! I was reluctant to even approach him. All I was thinking was "I came out here for this? SHEESH! I thought that I was invited to some game?" I approached him in the legendary adventures booth and he was trying to sell me books that I already had. I was trying to cut him off the whole time but he wouldn't let me interject. I finally cut him off and said that "I have all of these I'm Gene Weigel, remember?" and then some weird needle-nosed whitebearded hippy dude grabbed him and pulled him off somewhere. I went to some publisher then asked him to sign a book later on then he cut me off before I could say anything and grabbed the next guy's book. Then he was at the TLG booth signing and they let me hang out there and I barely had the chance to take that picture with him with all the people coming and going. He grabbed me towards the end of the con out of the crowd and said,"Never leave the party!" referring to the game the night before someone had informed him of. I didn't say anything just nodded having been wiped by the whole rapport so far. And that was the whole interaction. Later, I e-mailed when I got home saying that he's not a very approachable guy. He apologized saying thats the way it is at cons and he was sick. Now here is the punchline: At the time for most of that year and at the time of the con, I was writing excerpts and plotting for a graphic novel with Gary and we were developing an adventure in the "City of Pseudo Greyhawk" that he intended for one publisher but he wasn't solid on it yet! Har!

Oh yeah. I remember your Gary impression fresh from the moment. I bumped into him early that day while he was LMing, and I just sat by and watched him at work for a bit.

Living the Lejend (sometimes misspelled "Living the Legend").
Before that, Hall of Many Panes.
Before that, The Hermit.
I would try the "Old School Dungeon Crawl" from HOMP.

I don't have that one but I have the other two.
Both THE HERMIT and HALL OF MANY PANES were interesting.
I wasn't aware that he did LIVING THE LEGEND.

Bloody right"HOMP" was interesting--we Bards don't send folks off on adventures in merely mundane settings! ^__^

A Problem of Manors co-authored with Chris Clark comes to mind. There are several works yet to be published. For example, Lejendary Pantheons and his card game King of England, King of France. I also know from many of our correspondences that he was very excited about the completion of his Lejendary Asterogues, which is the sci-fi version of his Lejendary Adventure Game. He really put a lot of blood and sweat into that book. These are just the ones off the top of my head. I'm certain there are more. Gary has reviewed, expanded, altered, and directed me to alter several portions of CZ: The Upper Works. I never imagined, especially with it being so close to completion, that it would be a posthumous release. It hurts just saying it. Writing today was a strange and surreal experience. I was prone to a lot of day-dreaming and loss of focus, despite the Starbucks coffee. Still I knocked off some more encounter areas . . .

He ran a part of Living the Lejend when I gamed with him at his house in LG a few years ago. I am proud to say that upon the party arriving at the first challenge, I was the first one in the game to shout -- "I cast a spell!"
