"we are comprised of 8 dudes who have (mostly) been gaming together every week non-stop since about 1992." 1992?!? YOUNGSTER!!!! (I'm just bitter 'cause I've got arthritis! ^__^) No, no, no..... this is my "current" group. My "new" group. My "latest" group. I may be a youngster at 37, but I ain't that young! LOL. I've been in this thing since 1981. Just 1981? Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm just a young whippersnapper! ;D

"I have a neighbor that can get Cubans" Have you ever smoked a Cuban cigar? I don't get the "draw" so to speak-- a Central American blend cigar from Cuban seed has a much nicer, less harsh flavor! It must be the illicit nature that keeps people going on about Cubans! I smoked a couple, and then went back to the isthmus! ^__^ Yeah, more than once. Not certain it was the best I've ever smoked, but they do taste excellent.

Honestly, I used to smoke cigars but then this prick in-law in the early 90's was into it overnight when it got trendy and got all huffy about how juvenile my smoke appreciation was. Plus it seemed every jerk in the universe was out smoking with the boys. So I can't get into it as a shared after dinner schlameel. If I smoke a cigar then its a domestic blunt. Thats what I grew up with so I'm not particular.

Scott, but how can you do otherwise when you are talking about a group of 6 - 10 people gathering to game for 3 or 4 hours on a one-shot basis? PC development and campaign histories must be sacrificed. My weekly group is exactly opposite to this, because we are comprised of 8 dudes who have (mostly) been gaming together every week non-stop since about 1992. So, campaigns are deeply entrenched, with characters that have built up histories, NPC villains, glorious heroics, deaths, and so on. Back to the con: There are some exceptions to what I note above (such as Gary running one of his original dungeons, as you cite). If you are running some classic GH and all (or most) of the participants are familiar with the campaign, you (as DM) can work with some common ground and some common assumptions. Like, say you set up a border skirmish between the Knights of Hart (Furyondy) and the humanoids of Iuz by the Whystill Lake -- then you are all steeped in some GH intrigue. But, to each his own, of course. --JeffT I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's just not for me.

I lived in Germany for a while, so I've smoked plenty of Cubans. And every once in a while I'll get the hook up here, but all of my favorites are Dominican.

Gene-- I like Backwoods Smokes, I like Cloves (despite them bein' bad for ya!), and I like Caribbean smokes... I just like what I like! ^__^ Right now, I smoke those Marlboro 27s and thats about it. I was considering smoking a pipe again but I recalled that its such a mess. I used to smoke a pipe from 1984-1986 until the nasty pipe "juice" started to get to me. It was some Irish hobbit that seduced me into the pipe culture. I was friends with his daughter and she thought it was lame anyway. I couldn't be out and about at the clubs chawin' on a pipe so it didn't last.

Nothing more than wanderlust took me to Germany. I enjoy smoking a pipe too, but it's been a while. I don't think I have a pipe at the moment, other than the Gandalf replica pipe I have.

"I couldn't be out and about at the clubs chawin' on a pipe so it didn't last. " BAH!!! I smoked pipe and some seriously hot ladies didn't mind! The "cigar fad" was a 90's thing! I liked cigars, but pipe (began to end my Kool's habit... hey, I was a Jazz fan!) was my passion. Still always on hand in the van! ^__^

Shit! Am I the only one who ain't gonna have a pipe? I better tape up my hookah! Seriously, I stopped in a gas station on the west end of PA on last years trip and it was wall-to-wall pipes and tobacco paraphenalia up the wazzoo. Am I missing something? It was like a gas station tobaccanists! Is that normal?

What's odd about it? What else does Western PA have going for it, other than tobacco outlets?
Seriously, I bought a pipe once, but could never get into it. It seemed too much like work. And pipe smoke smells better than it tastes.
I started smoking cigars right at the beginning of the "cigar fad" of the 90's because I was trying to quit smoking cigarettes in 92. And cigars taste better than they smell. I succeeded and never went back to cigarettes. I like Dominican cigars, but they got so expensive during the fad days. Then I started smoking miniature cigars like Braniffs, or sometimes even Winchesters. The Winchesters I admit have brought me almost full circle back to cigarettes, since they look like cigarettes (but are even cheaper).
These days, I'm happy with a plain box of maduros from Bloom's on South Side -- the best $1 cigars you can still get.
