I talked to Gail on the phone, and e-mailed the Gar-Bear. He's pretty good about quick responses, so I should have some input shortly... ^__^

I actually prefer the schmoozing at cons to the game play, although a one shot minis battle would be cool. I just don’t get into the one shots games that much. Of course games with the G-man are the exception. That’s why I like the idea of the living campaign, you have more invested in those con games.

Yes, as Gene will tell you, I'm a total schmoozer too-- you're surrounded by all of that talent; you can game at home--you wanna learn! ^__^ But gaming with the "elders" is the exception--that's why I now go to LGGC over GenCon! ^__^

I gave Gary your "ride in the Cadillac" comment (duly credited), so we'll see what he says! I have to admit, that was good! ;D

Yeah, I feel that game was a big waste of time. I felt my normal D&D presence was heavily diluted even though many recalled my antics I was doing "fraction actions" through out. Remember the wine glass? 3 levels later: "I've been trying to tell you that I put it in a container since I first picked it up about 2 hours ago!"Yeah, no way am I doing that again! The Troll Lord dude said I can run an old school AD&D game this year so I've got it all planned out for the "Halls of Gloomgard" and if its going too slow to start then a magical express train is going straight to the middle of it on "day One"! Dammit! I'll give ya a fucking railroad! Just watch!

DMing one of the game personalities would be worth it too, like Robilar, Tenser, one of the Co8 characters. A couple years ago I talked to Gary about running an adventure for Nigby, Bigby's apprentice, but could never get the scheduling done. Maybe I'll run that by Gary again; I still have those adventure notes.

Well, of course ya gotta railroad them for a con-tourney. No time for long-winded RPing, or deep campaign histories, or DM's story-hour, or a Marvel Comics-like origin story. Pretty much, this is how I do it: Pick your pre-gens from this pile. You are a band of adventurers. You have arrived at such-and-such to do so-and-so. You see this-and-that. What do you do? Pretty much gets the action going straight away, no?

The thing that I noticed about gary is that he wasn't there later on. He has his games later in the afternoon at home while everyone else is at the con. And I don't even think there is standing room for that. He's there in the morning but I recall he didn't participate in some game that he was supposed to. Is that right? The Mountain battle thing that was going on in back of me?
When Ernie showed up Gary was gone already and he was looking for something to do. I had to rip out of Rob's game just to get him to sign my Geomorphs (which he didn't even recall doing) and then Ernie split when he finished with someone that he was talkign to after me cause he wasn't involved in anything it seemed. If I knew that I would have asked him to sit in. I just thought he was going to start something and I didn't want to bother him.

I'd rather skip the whole thing unless there was some special draw, like Gary's original dungeon, etc.

Scott, but how can you do otherwise when you are talking about a group of 6 - 10 people gathering to game for 3 or 4 hours on a one-shot basis? PC development and campaign histories must be sacrificed. My weekly group is exactly opposite to this, because we are comprised of 8 dudes who have (mostly) been gaming together every week non-stop since about 1992. So, campaigns are deeply entrenched, with characters that have built up histories, NPC villains, glorious heroics, deaths, and so on. Back to the con: There are some exceptions to what I note above (such as Gary running one of his original dungeons, as you cite). If you are running some classic GH and all (or most) of the participants are familiar with the campaign, you (as DM) can work with some common ground and some common assumptions. Like, say you set up a border skirmish between the Knights of Hart (Furyondy) and the humanoids of Iuz by the Whystill Lake -- then you are all steeped in some GH intrigue. But, to each his own, of course. --JeffT

...and I smoke a pipe with local favorite blends, so I tend not to be able to enjoy it outside of Gary's! LG has a fine tobacco shop, but my favorite blend ever came from Littleton, Colorado! ^__^

You'd better sign on with that in blood if you want to get in "Or it'll be where'd gary go". Bill just texted me that he's ready to go but I'm driving through PA.

"I have a neighbor that can get Cubans" Have you ever smoked a Cuban cigar? I don't get the "draw" so to speak-- a Central American blend cigar from Cuban seed has a much nicer, less harsh flavor! It must be the illicit nature that keeps people going on about Cubans! I smoked a couple, and then went back to the isthmus! ^__^
