Feel free to discuss all of those spoilers that you've been holding in. I saw it tonight. Good. Better than Jedi, but not IV and V.

And much better than the prequels. I couldn't stand them. The overall story line was ok, but the more into the details you get, the worse they get.

It seems like all of the post Jedi expanded universe ideas have been discarded. It was a mixed bag quality-wise, but they did go for internal consistency.

I like the Kylo Ren character. To me he really captures what the dark side should be: giving in to your emotions, anger, turmoil, etc. The Anakin of the prequels is just flat and bland. Darth Vader is a great villian, but he's very composed and methodical for someone preaching to 'give in to your anger'. But Kylo is the seething ball of rage that the dark side is described as.

My biggest like was the death star to starkiller base comparison chart with Ackbar (or a relative?).
My biggest dislike was the focus on the main character's feeling instead of Chewbacca's loss and his relationship with Leia, R2 and Threepio.

The Kylo character is definitely lit once its revealed that hes into a birthright of getting something handed to him instead of being second string to randomly powered jedi. That relates to so many scumbags that I know around my family.

My biggest dislike was the focus on the main character's feeling instead of Chewbacca's loss and his relationship with Leia, R2 and Threepio. It's funny you say that. My nine year old mentioned how it didn't seem like Chewbacca was that upset. A few angry bowcaster blasts and he was over it.

The roles Han and Chewbacca played were very odd, almost forced, but it was a bummer seeing Han get killed. You could see it coming but it was a strong scene.

The avalanche is starting to hit over here with points flooding up by various people that I know.
Was the goggle alien like Whoopi Goldberg on THE NEXT GENERATION shows and movies?
Someone said Han Solo seemed to be not Han Solo.
Another thought the evil character was too ineffective.
Another said where is the rebellion or counter rebellion centered if the main world was toasted?

There are plot holes articles popping up all over the place, but I haven't read any of them yet. I don't know if it's something I want to put that much critical thought into.

I don't know if it's something I want to put that much critical thought into. That is exactly what I was thinking. The more I think about the movie, the more things I find wrong with it. I could write a long rant about it, but I'm not sure it deserves that much critical thought. I am finally coming around to Harrison Ford's attitude about Star Wars, in general: "It's a silly movie, but wonderfully made" is what he said about the first one. When Lucas started the CGI tinkering, and Ford was asked about the Greedo versus Han controversy and who really shot first, Ford replied: "I don't know and I don't care." Ep VII is a big dumb movie with high production values and lazy writing. It's like a roller coaster with a theme that doesn't make any sense, but doesn't have to, because it is a fun ride. I also can't get past the feeling that it is fan-fiction.

I have the novelization audio book. The writing is pretty terrible, but it does provide some additional information.

I saw it the other night with the wife and kids. For a night out, it was entertaining. As far as the plot goes, there was a lot left to be desired. My 12 year old son pointed out that the blue lightsaber had been lost when Skywalker had his hand lopped off, so the one given to Rey should have been green. I had to think about that for a second. Disappointing that I didn't catch that one...

I noticed that, but I don't know if it was a mistake or not, since Vader never owned the green one.

I don't think it was a mistake. As far as we know, Luke still has his green lightsaber. We have no reason to think he lost it, or just left it somewhere. Also, when Kylo Ren says, "That's mine!" it implies he thinks he is entitled to it as Darth Vader's grandson. We already know he is an avid collector of Vader memorabilia. We saw the blue lightsaber in Luke's hand fall down that shaft, in Ep V, but that doesn't necessarily mean it fell to the surface of the gas giant -- it could have got stuck in a shaft and been salvaged later.
Look at me -- thinking about the finer details of Star Wars right after I said it wasn't worth it!

That's what I was thinking, it was the light saber that Luke lost on Cloud City. <long delay> Yes, there is a long, detailed history of what happened to the lightsaber after Luke lost it. I guess this is from the novels: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Anakin_Skywalker's_second_lightsaber It's like Henry Jones's Grail Diary.

In case anybody doesn't know, or if somebody has any different information, I hear the 3 stand alone Star Wars movies planned are Rogue One, a Han Solo movie, and a Boba Fett movie. Rogue comes out next Christmas, and then there will be another movie every six months, alternating between the series and the stand alones.
