Just thought some of you guys might like to know Dwarven Forge is having a 40% off sale. No, I don't work for them -- I'm just a fan of their stuff, and I've never seen these particular sets on sale before.

Ouch! That stuff is unreasonably priced to say the least. I've had piles of cash at one sitting to spend ad lib but $75 for an "on sale/off the main route/low shelf item"? They've got to be joking! You'd be $1200 in before you even rounded out a good variety. Thats why I didn't buy into it over ten years ago and I certainly won't buy into it now! I look at it as something that I can do myself for $20 and a few weekends off so I'll pass... I'd rather spend it on mead....

It's definitely a high-end market. I have a friend who has spent over $4000.00 and intends to spend even more. I justify getting four or five sets by telling myself I will never lose money on buying these, I can always re-sell them for at least what I bought... I'd also like to cast some sections that are compatible, once I get the basic sets -- learn how to use those Hirst Arts Castlemolds.

I bought some Dwarven Forge stuff, and sold it a few days later. It’s now probably part of the $4,000.00 collection Gary mentioned. I thought it was more of a pain than anything else as a playing accessory. I would consider it if I was going to build a diorama.

I agree the tunnels and passages aren't very useful -- too narrow, and you have be over top of them to peer down in to see the miniatures. But I think the rooms and caverns are fun to use, the larger the better.
For utility, you can't beat battle mats and legos. But I just love the way the DF stuff looks.

Yes, it does look good. So good that I did initially buy the very expensive set. I was lucky to get the full amount back; Eric was still spending other peoples money at the time.
