So, in the last of the Greyhawk's World articles from Dragon (September, 1982 issue), Nyrond and the Prelacy of Almor declared war on the Great Kingdom and its allies in 578. Along with the coming fighting that Gary hinted at between Furyondy/Veluna and Iuz and the Horned Society, did anyone ever move this timeline forward, as Scott has suggested? I "froze" things in my campaign insofar as these events go, and certainly wouldn't subscribe to the apocalyptic events of the Greyhawk Wars of Sargent (look at a map of WWI Europe and compare it to today's map after two world wars and the cold war--not a whole bunch of difference when all is said and done!). Did anybody else "play through" on these things? Just curious...

The campaign I'm running now is in 575 CY. I plan on using this info when I gt that far. I've speculated on things, but never used it in-game.

I had a problem with moving the borders around with what was then such a short amount of time. I wanted my players to experience the world as Gary presented it, before engaging in geopolitical flux! Now, however, I could move a few borders... but not to the extent of Mr. Sargent. ^__^

FYI---in my world, Yokon would be a staunch supporter of Celene, and Woodstock would weigh in for Greyhawk, while Kato ( who still wields Blackrazor in the current campaign) would be mercenary, but would probably side with Woodstock (if enough gold was involved!) The evil cadre of my world, the Watchers, would oppose Iuz and the Horned Society but would certainly not assist any good group--they would probably be too busy trying to scuttle the Slave Lords and Scarlet Brotherhood (whom they detest)to care, in all likelihood. That leaves Basiliv and the Circle of Eight to really make a difference, and Zayene vs. the Fellowship of Light in the East. ^__^

The Great Kingdom has had a good run, but with war declared, how could it stay the same? With the fractured nature of the Great Kingdom, it’s on the verge of pulling itself apart before the war. Nyrond and Almor, with help from the Iron League should pummel the Aerdi. If The Great Kingdom could work in unison, it would be different, but both herzogs have aspirations of sovereignty. So too do the Holy Censor and the Sea Barons. All of these entities are likely to sue for peace, and independence. I think the South Province would be torn apart very early. Aerdi and Medegia would probably go down. The Sea Barons and North Province have the best chances of ending up as new kingdoms after the conflict.

I guess a diminished Aerdi, Medegia, and part of South Province might end up as the successor state of the Great Kingdom. North Province, with some concessions, would emerge as a new entity, and the Sea Barons would be happy to cut ties with the main land. That’s one possibility, without a whole lot of thought out into it.

You are utterly correct--assuming the "false" Ivid (or however you spell it... ) stays in power! But what if a group of adventurers frees the real Ivid from Zayene and the more "lucid" version convinces neighbors to side with him? he might have a more viable chance at holding on,
