Honestly, I think cons and me are over. It was a painful and bitter divorce.... Seriously, if it was around the corner lets say Pennsylvania or even Virginia or Maine I'd consider it but to take a day's worth of driving there and back again? Sheesh, it would really have to be a real "convention" convention as in convening of like-minded individuals and not something that anybody can walk into. Its hard enough to get people to sit down for a game much less share a ride all the way to Wisconsin! It would have to be some kind of "real deal" "KABOOM" for me to stay stimulated and drive all night.

This CON was the REAL deal . . . in fact, it's the ONLY REAL DEAL left to "old school", "grognards" or those of us that love the OD&D feel of gaming. There simply is NO other place or CON anywhere, so why mention those states. Who cares? Who the hell show up at those CONS? Listen my friend and remember (a la LGGC) - GaryCON: Frank Mentzer running OD&D Tim Kask running OD&D Dangerous Journeys Mike Carr running FITS/Dawn Patrol Tim Kask running Circus Maximus The Dungeon game being played Luke Gygax running a game Jim Ward running MA Tom Wham playing assorted games, including Dragon Lairds In attendance along with the above: Ernie Gygax and his sisters Flint Dille Steve Sullivan Rob Kuntz Eric Shook Neil Christensen All of us gamers (GT/Shalaban) who remember and give thanks to Gary! You need to SHUT the FUCK UP!! Heh, just kidding (a Geneism, no?). And you better show up next year* ;D *I know, I keep threatening to come to NY, but there are far too many repubicans, zombies and awful smelling Queen's residents (oh, not you - but everyone in Hollis).

Heh, I'm talking about cons in general with the mentality that all you have to do is show up and play something. What I'm saying is that if I go again I want it to be blocked out with something thats a big deal. Not just show up and have to listen to people that I don't want in my house much less drive halfway across the country to sit next to for hours while they drone on and on.... Seriously, I want a Greyhawk apocalypse with lasers bursting out of it...

You know what? I think you're right.
And I think that perhaps I should just fucking go and thats that.
I think I owe it to something. I don't know what yet but count me in for Gary Con II whenever that is...

I'd love to go to this. I'm going to start planning for it now. I'm still unhappy that I missed Gary Con I, the LG Cons, and the Winter's Dark Cons... And I will forever be jealous of Rhuvein for being able to be at Gary's last Greyhawk Dungeon ever (?) at his house at Winter's Dark II... (not really, I'm happy for you dude -- I just wished I would have made it!). The irony is, I'm now on the business trip I wanted to tie in with Winter's Dark. I flew into Chicago today, and drove down to Valparaiso, Indiana. My plan had been to meet the client on a Thursday or Friday, drive back to Lake Geneva, and then spend the rest of the weekend gaming. But it was not to be, I just couldn't schedule it right.
But I think there's still a lot of reason to go to Gary Con II. Maybe I'll just plan on a vacation next March, and drive out, and see if I can bring Scott, too.

I had a great time with all of the lads, although I stuck to D&D/AD&D/Mythus games. I would've liked to have gotten in on Jim's MA game, but it was full-up! ^__^

I'm always hopeful. Time is hard to come by now, and I'll have another kid by then.

Yeah, I know what you mean with the kids. This girl scout shit is killing me, right now. I had to process fucking cookies like the northeastern hub of some kind of fucking teamster service... I'm committing myself to it though. It gives me a goal to reach. GenCon and everything local is dead (I looked. It seems to be just garbage cons out there). Like it or not, good or bad, GaryCon may be the last vestige of the best sword and sorcery gaming convention on earth. So I think that needs my unvarnished support.

No cookies yet. Just lots of soccer coaching. If Liana has her way though, this one will be a girl, so cookies might be in the future. And I'm with ya, this is the con to support.

Right now I'm just going to say I'm running something but i won't waste any energy nailing it down. But it'll be AD&D or Gamma World.

I'm still doin' Castle Zagyg, but am thinking about re-running S-3 with the two lower levels and added critters/equipment for those who I ran through it back in the 80s and for those in the group who never had the fun! I also plan on getting Mythus up and running again, but the hours in a week work against me! ^__^
