My oldest surviving characters are Therain (a M-U) and Kato (a Fi/Th halfling); and the oldest PC in my world is Woodstock (the Bard) all from 1979. I rather treated my 1978 character as "disposable", not knowing that I would become a huge fan of the game. ^__^

I think Cedric the cleric of St. Cuthbert and Ferris the ranger are the two oldest PCs. They were started in the 90s. They were played by two step-brothers, Brian and John. They were national guard reservists that ended up getting sent to Iraq. Brian (Cedric) is back now, but John moved to florida. I've been thinking about trying to get Brian into action again, or maybe a via e-mail game for John.

My cousin DJ's m-u Maylin would be the oldest active/semi-active PC. I put that game on hold when CZ came out so I could run it for some old time players with the PCs it was written for.

It would be cool to co-DM a session with our players sometime, maybe in CZ if all works out well there. What's your highest level PC, Gary?

This gets me thinking... some kind "Grognard Con" with Gene, you, me, Gary, Tony, Mark (Xelloss)... whoever else we can dig up in the Midwest/East Coast area! 'Sides; it's been awhile since Tony and I did the "Eastside Shuffle"! ^__^

We could get a hotel room or two in Pittsburgh, maybe in July, and everyone converges there... Hmmmmm... Barring the unforseen, this could work!

What do you think---start with fresh PC's and marathon through it (with minor alterations to encounters if necessary...), or we bring in "established" PC's and we both have to approve them for play?

I would give the players the option. As a player, I always prefer a character I have an attachement to. Also, starting fresh, with 1st level characters, means a lot of unexciting resting/healing downtime.

True. We could always upgrade/downgrade PC's to equitable levels on fresh PC sheets to make things even, but still maintain familiarity! I'm curious to see what sort of character Gene would use... I know Tony would prefer "the Bard", but frankly he'll play anything! ^__^

I thought about this before, and I wanted to run an online/con 'living' campaign. I'm not really a fan of con/tournament style play, so I wanted to give the characters in the con game a little more depth and background. EGG related a story about a con game he ran where one of the PCs, a magic-user, was captured by the kobolds, and then sold to the goblins on the second level. The game ended just as the player reminded Gary that the character still had a charm person spell and the goblin chief got charmed. Gary then continued the game via e-mail for a while and the m-u took over the goblins and a section of the 2nd dungeon level.

Well, it wouldn't be Con Play in the purest sense, as we would all know each other (at least indirectly...). Online is cool, but the lag time brought on by work schedules and such can cause "lost opportunities".

I've always liked the class. Paladins and magic-users have always been my favorites. My three favorite (surviving) PCs are Talivar the magic-user, Gilderoy that paladin, and Gildon (the Glib) the bard. All are currently looking for adventure. I've got a pile of dead and neglected characters that are like a handful. The neglected ones are from other campaigns that I was in and wouldn't translate. The survivors of the old campaign are a 1/2 orc fighter, Grok a UA barbarian, a 1/2 ogre fighter and his sidekick the duergar assassin and the rest are only assimilated as NPCs otherwise I wouldn't use them at all. My evil human cleric created a milieux of his own but I never got a chance to use him as an NPC as the old players might recall what he's all about. I play Grok when I DM a lot and usually when I play so he's all over the place and he never goes up in level.

Actually, I have a 1/2 ogre fighter (as per the Gar-Bear write-up) as an NPC in my world (Ergo by name!) He's chaotic evil however... ^__^

I have a few evil characters as well, but none have really had the opportunity to develop any personality.

C'mon Gene... weigh in here! I promise not to kill your chaotic Cavalier 'out of hand'! ^__^ He's too busy escaping from the strange stronghold of "Der Daimyo Glib"... Seriously, I've got to salvage that bastich maybe have him show up in the next game as a tribute: Stunzzor of the Hollow Crusade! Damned to walk the worlds forever searching for the seven cities of Chromaroc...

Well, there is Dardrin, a lawful evil fighter and his m-u henchman. On the ‘return to town’ part of a dungeon trek I attacked the other two party members. One escaped, but my henchman charmed one. I robbed him and left him naked in the woods. On another occasion he declared himself the leader of the party and stated that things were going to be done his way for now on. The other players were so confused. One either attacked me, or tried to run away, but the rest of the party just stood their being confused. I killed the one player that had the beef. Dardrin left the party after that adventure, and that was the last time he adventured.
