The druid spell Chariot of Sustarre first appeared in the Players Handbook which came out in August 1978. In Dragon, Gary said they were still working on it in May 1978. I was just reading Red Sonja #9 and it featured a spell cast by "Suumaro" with powers that he inherited. May 1978 was the month that this comic was on the newsstands: It seems that Denis Sustare may have borrowed the spell from this story. The Chariot of Suumaro?

Well, just in the stoic sage of antiquity sense, I've been living in the ancient world of late...

Well, those guys were all totally influenced by comics and esoteric toys and such---recall the origins of the bulette, rust monster and (I'm sure of it!) beholder... ^__^

I can't believe I watched a third edition D&D based movie and liked it. You bastard! Seriously, it was comically-inspired and well made so you have to give it that. The new D&D warped convoluted weirdness just added to the humor. Hey what are you derailing my inspired find with movie references for? Well...at least its hasn't been derailed with puns and beer again... Just kidding! "JUST KIDDING The Movie" COMING SOON... Just kidding!

Anyhow, to "re-rail" this thread... I can't believe that you found this! I collected 70s comics, but I never bought a Red Sonja! How does the GW do it? ^__^

I always got the obscuro comics because they were picked clean by vultures in the city. Thats why I liked the weird Kirby ones (2001, Machine Man, OMAC, Kamandi, etc.) nobody was collecting those at the time but I just ate them up.
I only recently read the entirety of early S&S Marvels through reprints.

Here's some weird comic/D&D reference strangeness that i encountered: The picture of the barbarian in MEN & MAGIC has an uncanny resemblance to an issue of MONSTERS UNLEASHED's Gullivar Jones of Mars adaptation (#8) by a really young George Perez but it doesn't looked traced at all from any of the images and this is the only issue with this artstyle (other Gullivar's were by more seasoned and stylistic artists MOE #4 (1974) and some issues (#16-21) of CREATURES ON THE LOOSE (1972-73)).
