I was playing tonight, running my PC Talivar, a magic-user. He got hit by a lightning bolt and failed his save. Some of his most prized possessions then failed their saves, Cloak of the Bat, Ring of Regeneration, Ring of Fire Resistance, Bag of Holding, 250 lbs. cap., and a Potion: Black Dragon Control were all lost. Wow! did that hurt.

Ouch indeed! We gamed today, but fared better, taking down a bunch of Settite cultists, and their giant carnivorous apes. Much loot was gained by the party

That was my friend Jay. Him and his brother are moving to California, and he wanted to run one more game before he left. Sort of a Maure Castle set up. One of Jay's old PCs was used as the NPC that acquired some treasure info, and gathered the party to assist. We over-extended ourselves on healing and got our asses kicked. One PC death, not permanent. Never did make it to the conclusion.

The lightning bolt was blue dragon breath. The dragon was using his breath weapon on the tough guys in close combat. I just got unlucky in being in a straight line behind the fighter he opted to breath on. I think there were three characters in the area of effect; I was the only one that failed the save. The next fight was with gargoyles. The attacked us from above, so it made the normal defensive formation useless. We were pretty much spent in spells by this point, had a few larger area of effect things left, but they were amongst us, so I was foced to attack with a magic dagger. During this fight, both of our clerics were knocked unconscious, and the monk was killed. Called it quits after that. Maybe we'll finish it up online somehow.

Sorry, must be a British thing. Dragons, gargoyles, half the party decimated...a small luck token (like white heather, a rabbit's foot, etc) is meant to cheer the soul - while recognising the hopelessness of the situation!

Yeah, that must be a British thing, or at least not a Pittsburgh thing. Thanks for the info though.

The European version of the heather species of plant have a purple hue but every now and then there'd be white versions. They've cultivated these white versions and now sell them as lucky (Scottish) souvenirs. Yeah, I'd say it definitely doesn't translate to America although I'm preconditioned for "automatic four leaf clover scanning" from the various leprechauns on the paddy side of the family.
