I picked up the core rulebook yesterday. This is the newest edition of the game, and I've heard some of the concepts are previews of what's to come in D&D 4E. The rules are really tied to the miniature lines; movement rates are given in squares. It's very similar to D20. Everybody has multiple classes and prestige classes. Darth Vader is a 7th level Jedi, 5th level Jedi Knight, 2nd level ace pilot, 2nd level Sith apprentice, 3rd level Sith Lord. Jedi and Jedi Knight are different classes. Sith apprentice is a class. D20 rules take another giant leap into the absurd.

Flipped through it at the bookstore. Was not to my gaming tastes, but to each his own.

I used to hhave the old Star Wars RPG. I can't remember who published it. It was clunky, but I had fun playing it. Being a Star Wars fan, and knowing many Star Wars fans, I'll probably give the new rules a try.

Think it was West End Games. My group went through character creation for about 2 weeks, then never ended up playing.

I've tried a few D20 games, and the Star Wars character creation process is the most cumbersome I've come across. I'd feel bad about killing a character after going through all of the work required to create him.
