I read that story yesterday that was in Dragon #244 (June 2006) THE RETURN OF GORD and its set in the Doug (FR,DL) Niles "kiddie park" version of the city that they rehashed for Living Greyhawk. The story revolves around it. Weird. BY HIMSELF BETRAYED!!! Seriously, I think my Gord fandom has been retroactively destroyed at this point.

Knowing the circumstances of the writing, I had very little interest, and when I didn't hear any positive feedback from sources I trust, I lost all interest.

I didn't read it. I don't get Dragon normally and I wasn't about to buy it for a story that isn't recommended by old-schoolers.

That's exactly how I feel. When I heard it was 'co-written' by EGG, and set in a more post-Gygax-style Greyhawk, I decided to hold out until hearing some positive feedback. But I am looking forward to your Yggsburgh module.

I have to say the guy is a nice guy and a good player and GM. And the story is a story of a thief's activities but I didn't enjoy a superficial blending of Gygax's protagonist who is the last window into Greyhawk's grace. The last saving grace of Greyhawk. Now officially buried in a land of lizardmen troops with feather caps...Hooray!
What is there left to hang on to?
Do I torch my Gord series for good?

Is there some intrinsic value to not burning a series of divested game novelizations? In this case, the half ideas of the series had potential for game publishing if there was a hope of fruition but if there is zero future game publishing potential because it has become equilateral with its pervasive and engulfing antitheses then why even own them? Furthermore, its retroactively made my mid-90's to the present complaints retconned to be seamingly without merit. Ah well was I the only one holding back the inertia from Gord's dip into mediocrity? If I didn't bitch and moan about this in 2000-2001 with my "true Greyhawk maps and websites" and "general Greyhawk messageboard annoyances" would this "sell out" have happened sooner? Could be...

I hadn't been aware that EGG didn't write the story, that the author did most/all of the writing. Sigh....
