I was looking for stats for frost salamanders in AD&D to go along with the miniature from Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures. Do the stats exist? From what I recall from medieval alchemy, salamanders were fire elementals, just as gnomes were of earth, undines were of water and sylphs were of air. I don't remember anything like 'frost' elementals from medieval lore... I would think that would simply be a variation on a water elemental perhaps from how they manifest in winter.
Maybe I am overthinking it and should just use the stats for salamanders from the MM, with fire/heat replaced with ice/cold.
I like free willed elementals that are intelligent, have a society, etc. It seems like there is a lot of potential beyond the usual djinn and efreet.

Angry Golem games put one out and describes them as "natives of the Paraelemental Plane of Ice." angrygolem-games.com/monster-manual/letter-f/frost-salamander-5e-stats/If my memory of the B/X original is correct--and it isn't always--it looked more like a giant version of the amphibian that lived in cold climates more than like an elemental critter.

Never heard of them, but not a bad idea. I would probably start with the standard salamander as you mentioned and use the Ice para-elemental from the plane of cold from the MM II for inspiration for the mods.
