Every year around this time, I usually reread THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW by Washington Irving, or more recently, listen to the excellent audio version produced by CHILLING TALES FOR DARK NIGHTS narrated by Heather Ordover with sound effects by Jesse Cornett. Over the weekend, I also rewatched SLEEPY HOLLOW (1999) directed by Tim Burton. It is not true to the original, but does much homage to it as well as previous adaptations. SPOILER... A plot error I noticed this time around was that Mary (Archer) Preston, the current Lady Van Tassel, fakes her own death using the body of the servant girl, Sarah, but then later on says that after Katrina dies she will be the sole heir of the fortune. But once you fake your own death and you're dead in the eyes of the community and the law, you legally aren't able to inherit anything...

It's been a few years, but it's a good read. One of the first stories I read on a first generation Kindle I also enjoy the Tim Burton Sleepy Hollow. One of the movies I watch every year heading into Halloween.
