I will order some table service at the Con since everyone is making such a big deal out of it... In general, I'd rather cook or grill than eat at restaurants. The local grocery stores are Piggly Wiggly, Aldi, and Supermarcado American. That being said, there are a few other places that might be worth checking out: La Botana, Great Eggs, Joni's Diner, Simple Cafe, Grandma Vicki's Cafe, Egg Harbor Cafe, Next Door Pub & Pizzeria, Heart & Sol Cafe, Sabai Sabai, Oakfire, Frank's Original (has Italian Beef), Potbelly Sandwich Shop, the Tuscan Tavern & Inn, Sprecher's and Culver's. Avant Cycle Cafe, Geneva Java and Boxed and Burlap are highly rated local coffee shops, and of course there is a Starbucks. There is a Beef Jerky Outlet and Lake Geneva Spice Company which both look interesting. There's a local gaming store named Lake Geneva Games and a cheese shop named The Cheese Box close to it and I'll have to visit those places as well!
"Would you happen to have any... cheese?"

There was some eatery that he mentioned as a TSR haunt but I'll have to check in with Ernie.

Wheggi mentioned that Egg Harbor is good so we’ll likely hit that up Thursday morning. If there’s a dinner place in town that’s got historical cachet I’d probably be down for that on Thursday night. Friday and Saturday my schedule’s tight enough that I’ll probably stay on site and eat the (I’m assuming overpriced and nasty) con food.

I just saw the menu somewhere. It seems like the set up is bar food served at the tables with D&D names.

Next Door Pub is pizza/American, and good. It gets busy, though. The breakfast place over in Williams Bay is excellent: www.daddymaxwells.com/Medusa’s is good Greek. Allan.

Seems like everything is combusting for this con but unless a miracle happens it seems like it not going to happen.

I am so frustrated over this crap. I guess I have to cancel everything. Jon, Allen's friend, is going to hold to the 25 copies maybe for North Texas Con but I don't think I'm going to be available for that time period.
Fucking blows, man.

I can't find anything that says Gary Con XII is cancelled yet. Is it? Luke's FB post seemed to indicate it was still on and part of the reason was that the Grand Geneva wouldn't issue a refund since Wisconsin only recommended cancelling events with 250+ people and didn't ban them. I'm still planning on going unless the Con is cancelled and/or Wisconsin issues a ban on large, nonessential gatherings.

The big determining factor for me is less the can itself than the airline flight to get there, with a layover in Dallas (and another one in Phoenix on the way back). That's four planes' worth of people and four different busy airports. Commercial air travel is filthy and disgusting and a breeding ground for infection at the best of times. If I were driving in I'd probably feel differently, but it seems almost certain I'd be exposed from that travel and even if I don't personally get sick risk passing it along to vulnerable family at home or vulnerable "legends of wargaming" (who pretty much to a person are both old and in poor health) at the con. Yeah it would be cool to play at a table with Dave Megarry and Mike Carr and Jeff Perren and so forth but it would definitely NOT be cool to accidentally expose them to a virus that they're in a much higher risk category for than I am.
It sucks both because I was really looking forward to it and because there are a bunch of already-sunk costs that it doesn't look like will be refundable, but at this point it feels totally irresponsible to do anything else.

Plus if this thing mutates, from being "out and about" (of China) and we know its got the speed already, I'd hate to have deliberately travelled too far from the children spending their doomsday hours alone... Seriously, this shit happened fast and so hard I don't know whether to shit or wind my watch.

Dorothy just cancelled everything. So I guess next year, this was pretty depressing for all the supporters so thinking of an alternative is really depressing.
I think I need to come up with a way to help out that will make the next on exceptional. My first thought is maybe emphasizing all things Gary and run something that is the "worst of Gary" with an emphasis on just how good he was.

I respect Luke's decision to cancel and the decision of others not to go. But if I can't get a refund on my trip (and it looks unlikely) I'm strongly considering going anyway. I already requested the time off from work. It appears there will be pick up games with people still going to Lake Geneva (see the new FaceBook group "Keep Calm and Gary Con"). And if I'm out $1300 whether I go or not, what the hell -- I may as well go!

Heh, my day so far this morning makes the coronavirus look like a walk in the park. Sitting in a car after 3 trips back and forth for an eye doctor appointment with unstable teen, everyone screaming about everything, walking on eggshells so no one has a breakdown, waiting for them double parked for last two hours with an autistic 9 year old playing Minecraft and screaming everytime he respawns, have not eaten anything yet, and when they finish the drama will start all over again... Heh, Garycon might have been like "Gene, you took a whole day just to sleep?" OH YEAHHH!!! Seriously, sleep? Whats that?

Yeah, I'm wondering what now as the pushing of the book seem like a non-event in contrast to what is going on. I was thinking about helping out Garycon attendees because I think if I didn't say I was going others wouldn't have wanted to go. Maybe e-mail them something special? What would be cool though?

Maybe run a virtual event? Doesn't have to be Roll20 with all the props and layers and sound effects... It could just be theater of the mind via Skype.

The technological part might be too off. I've never used my phone for any of that. How about Facebook live? How the hell does that work? Is it live as long as you want?
