I just realized the "ski chalet" is a mile away so going from the Artist thing to the Artist hang out looks like its going to be a chore. You mean I can't half-cocked talked to Jeff Easley... "So you're saying you actually don't paint over tints and shades that you swallowed and regurgitated?

Hey, Gary. Could you pick me up a copy of The Trouble at Loch Jineeva? An adventure Luke and Jeff Talanian wrote.

I just realized the "ski chalet" is a mile away so going from the Artist thing to the Artist hang out looks like its going to be a chore. I believe the Ski Chalet is also where the designated "open gaming" area is this year. It seems weird to have it in such an out-of-the-way location, but I guess they are running out of space in the main building.

Getting in on those games with Mike Carr, Allen Hammack and Jeff Perren is great simply for historical purposes. What I mean by that is you will now get to say you gamed with the authors of B1: IN SEARCH OF THE UNKNOWN, C2: THE GHOST TOWER OF INVERNESS, and the co-author of CHAINMAIL! Mike Carr, the Bishop of Blackmoor, Saint Carmichael... Allen Hammack, the guy who made up the Soul Gem (which turned my monk's hair white in 1984)... Jeff Perren, for whom Perrenland is named! I don't actually care about the historical miniatures games they designed or that they will be playing, except maybe BOOT HILL. I might observe these games for part of the time, as long as there is no rule or etiquette against that. Yep. In addition, I think it's cool that all of the games - Don't Give Up the Ship, Boot Hill, and Cavaliers & Roundheads - were co-written by Gary, which seems appropriate at an event dedicated to his legacy. My schedule didn't allow for any Chainmail or Tractics games. Maybe next time That's sort of what I did the first time I went, playing Chainmail twice, including the annual Saturday evening Battle of the Brown Hills (which I highly recommend) written by Gary, Dungeon! (which he worked on heavily), a 5E Cave of Chaos game (boring, because it was just one cave and so straightforward), and a special event at Horticultural Hall on Friday night with lots of old artifacts on display. I also accidentally parked across the street from the 330 Center Street house after driving into town, looked up and recognized it...Woah! I then drove around town a bit and looked at some of the other locations using the map on the endpages of Empire of Imagination (which I read on the trip). If you do a driving tour, don't miss the Lake Geneva Public Library which is in a beautiful location right on the lake. Tom Wham worked there after TSR for decades and I'm sure Gygax and Kuntz spent time there.

There is transport every 15 minutes. So it looks like the artist's thing at the Ski Chalet is definite.

Greets Gents! Well, I want to get up to Gary Con for at least one day, but my Murano needs new rear shocks and probably rear brakes, and I don't know that I'll get them done in time. A lot going down lately in my absence with Trent and Gene's projects... I run my campaign still with some of my first players as well as some new one's (daughter's friends and grad students from Purdue). It's a 5th level thing centered around the Keep on the Borderlands, the Vesve Forest and Greyhawk as of now. Well; I'll continue to make sporadic appearances. Here's your chemistry lesson for the day: "What do you call a beaker full of distilled water and a rear tooth?" A One Molar solution!

Fri at 11 is another film "There Be Dragons" but its only a preview. I think from sound of it this is a video preview of something that will later be released as a podcast? I wonder if Paul will slip in any glimpses of unreleased maps etc from Gary's stuff? tabletop.events/conventions/gary-con-xii/schedule/2160I guess podcasts are more popular these days than documentaries. I am considering this, since it's after the tournament ends and I don't have an early game on Saturday.

Gene, Gary: where did you guys find your hotel reservations? I have a few friends who are considering attending at the last minute.

I used Priceline.com to book a package. I also called Seven Oaks to confirm my reservation and ask about amenities. In my search for hotels, I also thought the Cove looked reasonable and spacious -- and it appears to still have some availability for the convention dates.

Hell, I never check in any where. Dorothy booked everything. She was tip-toeing around going herself for a while but when I said that she would have to play Dungeons and Dragons and it was a screeching halt after that. Seriously, she only plays if someone she knows, and is novel to the game, is in on it. Otherwise, its just "Him acting like an idiot for hours."

Personally, the kid drama is neck deep but its slowly getting manageable. I'm heading down to Florida next month to see if they'd be happier in candyland year round. So thats not too fun.
