The kids were making characters last night and it was interesting watching the absorption of the information. All three, yes, Hunter too (believe it or not.), opted for human fighters.
I had them each look at 1978 handbooks and had my fucked up 1981 Basic book at hand to see how Uncle Chardo scribbled all over it (I didn't mention about the cops ripping it up.)
I tried my hardest not to over talk and I explained the principle 4 character classes very succinctly.
We did not use "Comeliness" at all as I was trying to rapid fire but I did explain that we may use it.
They opted for "Method 3" and got some choice rolls out of that.
I had used the size comparison from the blog that I put together to show the difference of races and while the oldest looked at that the two youngest left.
For language selection, I said D10 for the list of 9 with 0 being pick something out of the NPC language chart.
Then the initial money was sad (75) but I let it stand.
Luckily, I only had to explain alignment combinations to one person but she kept insisting that I tell her what I thought was the best alignment of which I kept saying was "neutral good". She opted for chaotic good but was considering chaotic neutral.
So that went alright but we didn't get into the campaign. I wanted to keep it just about how the game works because Sophia (my oldest) had some experience making a 5th edition character and she didn't like it so she wanted to see what the hell I was doing with all this old shit.
