Soccer and baseball end this weekend. That will free up about 4 or 5 nights a week. I was on a bit of a creative roll before spring sports derailed me.

It seems lame but kid activities are probably way more important. I know I feel mentally better doing it but looking back I'm like I put way too many hours into their activities but there was no way around it.
I played that DUNGEON boardgame a few weeks ago and only one of them is emotionally prepared for D&D.
Heh, I had yet another disaster this week yesterday when my car shutdown on a hill when my friend Taylor came around to help me out he said some people were loudly playing D&D of some kind in a house that he passed at the bottom of the hill. Then he added I don't what form of D&D it was but someone said "7th level barbarian".
That was surreal. I almost felt like going over and checking it out but I was sacked yesterday.

I understand the busyness of doing all the kiddo activities - did it myself with our three - now they are all 20+ when did that happen?! It eventually comes about that they grow up and are ready for gaming with growing maturity - and it's really great to be enjoying these days now! Don't take any magic items near that neighborhood barbarianš!

I've got to organize a game and I'm not sure where to start.
My friend showed up out of nowhere last year and my imagination became supercharged with this idea of a STAR WARS-esque "NEW HOPE" for the old campaign but never put all your eggs in one basket. While that would have been great, I can't be that guy anymore. I subliminally felt like this person is too close to me and I have no idea who they are anymore so I kept a distance. I'll refloat the idea in the future if he shows up again but it probably won't happen.
If I have a real reunion with all players the fallout will be a like a nuclear war but part of me wants it to happen.
In the meantime, I want to ultimately play with already rolling AD&D players, of course. I feel like the technology is available but I cannot wrap my head around the scheduling or motivation for better tech at home.

I hope you are able to work out a plan for gaming! I get what you are saying about using technology for gaming - although it is a possibility, I so much enjoy gaming face-to-face, that I don't know that I would be up for overcoming scheduling and different feel of gaming remotely? For me, I just had to find newbies to AD&D, and develop into a game that way, and so far, it is coming along! It started like this: our close friends' son mentioned to me that he was now starting playing later editions AD&D and was enjoying it (he knew that I had run AD&D campaigns in my youth). He asked if I was ever gonna get back to it again, and I told him that if I did, it would only be to run 1e AD&D campaign set in Greyhawk. He told me to let him know if I decided to make it happen, because he would join in. Then my (oldest) daughter's fiancƩe expressed interest, followed by my son and his girlfriend. Then, my other daughter's boyfriend and she (when in town, since she is mostly away for college) also were interested. So we started last November. Age range of players: almost 19 to 24. It is a set schedule: weekly Wednesday nights 6:00 to 10:00. There has been some attrition: youngest daughter broke up with boyfriend, so he's no longer playing. Son and girlfriend initially both withdrew from playing, then they broke up, now my son is gaming once again. There has also been some new blood: two friends of the close friend's son joined, my youngest daughter asked if a guy friend of her's could join (a new future boyfriend?), and now a friend (girl) of my oldest daughter rolled up a character last week. So it's chugging along so far with some growth. Typically we have five players each week, but at times, we have more than that, and those are fun gaming sessions! If we eventually get in the range of 8 to 10 players each week, that will be great! That will probably be as much as I can handle - it is hard to imagine DM'ing a larger group than that - anyone have experience regularly DM'ing 12+ players?! How do you do that effectively?! Something I have thought about is that it would be fun for me to be a player under an experienced 1e AD&D DM. If only I lived near to one of you! I'm sure I'd both have fun and learn, which would hopefully improve my DM skill. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross someday...I do have a friend that runs a campground with a large central gathering place with a kitchen - it could be imagined used periodically as a long weekend gaming retreat for old-schoolers...and/or old-schoolers to bring up the next generation to grok the old-schoolers ways...? See if you can get some gaming started, Gene, in whatever way works for you, and let us know how it goes! You have to experience the fun of using your gaming creations!

We played OD&D (box set only) last night. I was planning on filming it to get a feel for how painful it could be starting a new OD&D game. I asked my friend to press record, but he hit the wrong button, so we didn't get the video. It was a perfect example: trek to the dungeon, first encounter a player gets one hit killed by a giant centipede (before even considering the poison), and then back to town.

That sounds interesting. Just the 3 book or all of it?

Just the three books. When the supplements came out it started looking more like Basic or AD&D. I was looking for OD&D in its most unique form.

So just the 3 classes? I kind of lean in that direction class-wise with AD&D but it doesn't change the fact that thieves are omnipresent.

Yes, just the three classes. Party of five, all humans, three fighters, a magic-user, and a cleric. No thief class, but once they get to exploring the city there will be āthievesā. This is just an occasional digression from the main AD&D game.

The thief debate I think has to be kept alive to get the feeling of D&D. A thief PC, I think, should always be in an invisible classification of character. Not an appendix class like the psionics or bard additions but more of an in-place thing that is always there but when a PC plays one it is akin to playing a troll or even a balrog.

Another new player joined - a friend of my son's - that added another 1/2orc fighter PC...another weapon specialist...

There's scuttlebutt of 1-3 more possible players joining the group, so we may be maxed out party size soon...I don't see how I could manage any more that 10-12 PCs, anybody have tips how to make it work best with large # PCs?

The map is elaborate but that is hammered except the room detail (doors, secret doors, etc) which is only partial. I had to walk away for a while as its been a tough week but I was back on it yesterday. Not today though. Gene, have you been able to get back to progress more on this yet?

Yeah my car had me worried when it started acting erratic acceleration sudden drop offs - but it was just a bad camshaft sensor - it's going good again just crossed 300,000 miles!

Ok, now another of my son's friends wants to make up a character and join the party for gaming next week...my guess is he will also make a 1/2orc fighter weapon specialist like my son and his other friend?! The three 1/2Orc-amigos?!

I started back on the adventure for publishing and got majorly sidetracked when I dismantled psionics on a DNA level. I have a handoff converter already in place for the published things that signals psionics but then I was like how can I have new psionics if I don't have an alternate but compatible system? This ain't no DeeeeTwenneee!!! Sorry! Anyway, I'm so neck deep I have not looked at the TOEE blog thing but tomorrow is "ladies night" so maybe I can burn some midnight oil.

Still stuck on one section of "BROKEN CASTLE" adventure but its coming along very nicely. Its another plugged in side adventure for the campaign although this one's ties have faded way more than the last one. This explores more traditional fantasy content than all the new shit that is everywhere else in this thing but its a hard take. Simple for anyone but I'm doing the legwork.
I have two more villages to do then another side location thats smaller so this is really coming down the mountain at this point.
