Alright, it wasn't bad.
This is Abrams best film to date though.

I also saw it, and I won't give any spoilers either. I'm wavering between 3/5 and 4/5 stars as a review. I'd say it is better than the prequels but not as good as the original trilogy. The first half of Episode VII is just great, nearly perfect. It has a lot of great little moments, especially for the long-term Star Wars fan. It does a nice job of introducing new characters while at the same time weaving in nostalgia. But then the cracks begin to show and several things happen that I flat out did not like, and the last act nearly ruined it for me. It definitely doesn't deserve the 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Not sure what is happening...
"I'm not sure if I liked The Force Awakens..." [Hand wave with Jedi Mind-Hype] "You loved The Force Awakens." "I loved The Force Awakens!" "You loved The Force Awakens, and you will give overly exuberant reviews of it online."
I also notice that a lot of the over the top positive reviews seem to be going hand in hand with prequel-hatred -- and even Lucas-hatred (which I detest). I don't completely hate the prequels. They don't live up to the original trilogy. I think they are entertaining movies, but with flaws. Episode VII also has flaws, just different flaws from what the prequels had.
3.5/5

I didn't see it drunk if thats what you mean...
Just kidding!
I see what you're saying but we'll discuss in length when everybody is on the same page so we don't muddy the water.
As far as prequels go, there is plenty good in them but Natalie Portman is just so bad. Everybody attacks Chistensen and Jar Jar which is not unfounded but she is the real shit sandwich of bad performance.
I like Christensen's performance. Its spot on. Jar Jar was a good idea but it could have been executed "Yoda style" where we learn its all a front for ancient "imbecile warfare" martial arts or something like that.

I wasn't referring to your review, Gene. I was just giving my own review, and commenting on what seems to be prevalent among the reviews online. It seems like 90% of the people "love" Ep VII -- with many bashing Lucas as an aside -- and 10% hate it while bringing up many valid criticisms.
I feel like if you go into it with the mindset like "This is a roller coaster" it is very likeable.
But I can't really argue with many of the points made by the "haters."

I admit that I ignored most info on it but watched the trailers, a few commercials and saw a lot of toys. Ignoring info it seemed everything was revealed in the theater although I avoided all the big mouths this year. I also didnt watch anything STAR WARS recently except for that despecialized edition from a few years ago.
I think I might know one of the things thats throwing you off but its to complex to discuss without spoilers.
