This morning I watched LET ME IN, released in 2010. For some reason I had overlooked this movie until now. They used the "Hammer Films" name in the production! It was a surprisingly well-done vampire movie. Evidently it is a remake of a Swedish movie named LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, so I'm going to have to check that one out, too.

Without giving away spoilers, I'll just add that I thought the treatment of vampires in this movie was very traditional, yet somehow the story also felt fresh and original. That is a rare balancing act.

I just watched LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008), which is the Swedish movie that LET ME IN is based on. It is also good, and in my opinion better than the original -- although the remake has a few strengths in favor of it. On the surface, it may seem like one movie is nearly a shot for shot remake of the other in a different language and with merely the names and setting changed. But there are script differences and directorial choices that make these significantly different stories. These movies would be ideal for comparison in a film class.
Anyway, due to story the differences, I would say the treatment of the vampire as a pure monster is more traditional in the remake but has more of a subtle Anne Rice influence in the original.
