My sons did a little dungeon crawling yesterday. It was Liam’s first time playing. He did pretty good.
The party:
Finn: 4th level human fighter played by Gavin.
Jolly: 1st/1st Halfling fighter/thief, Finn’s henchman.
Ragnar. Liam’s 1st level human fighter.
Sayervin. NPC 4th level cleric.
Tharendell, a 2/2 fighter/magic-user elf.
The party made its way to the cave that led to the great cavern where the elf and half-orc gatekeepers dwell. Finn was surprised to see that there was no sign of the half-orcs, but there were more elves. He asked as was told that they left. They moved to some other area of the dungeon.
Finn wanted to explore the 3rd level, so after the elves raised a portcullis and the party descended.
The party quickly found itself wandering in a maze like area. After hitting multiple dead ends they emerged into a large chamber and were surprised by a very large displacer beast. The party killed the monster, but not before it inflicted a lot of damage on the party and used up most of their spells. Searching the lair they found a backpack full of gold and a scroll. Finn decided to take the hide as well. The party thought they might not be ready for the 3rd level and decided to return to town to rest.
The scroll was an illusionist scroll, so they sold it. That, the backpack full of gold, and the displacer beast hide netted a pretty good haul for one encounter. Enough for Ragnar to level.
Gavin was lured away by Xbox, so Finn and Jolly were out. They party recruited Ingo, a gnome fighter/thief, and headed back to the ruins. Ragnar poked around the castle ruins for a bit, but after a wandering encounter with a band of orcs he decided to head to the dungeons via the elf cave. Ragnar chose to explore the 1st level. After discover a few traps, the hard way, and another encounter with orcs, the party ran into Yundoo the Evil, a cleic, and his gnoll servants. Yundoo, a favorite of mine, has been around a long time, and has survived previous encounters with PCs, but not this time. The party was beat up after the encounter, so they headed back to town. In addition to some coin they got a command scroll and a potion of diminution from the cleric.
And that was a wrap.
