There have got to be better maps out there for Dark Chateau than what came with the module!
At least Rob's hand-drawn maps? Grodog? Anyone?

I remember there being some discussion on this at Rob's, but I don't know if anything ever came of it. I ended up doing my own.

Just turn the basement map 90 degrees, and then it's accurate. The rest are functional enough! ^__^

Most of the complaints I've heard are about the "style" of the maps (excepting the direction error in the basement...), but that should only affect the DM anyway--the players should be making their own maps (if they're of non-chaotic bent!) ^__^

Many shades of gray with no contrast to speak of. Especially late in the game when I'm, well, a few more beers into the process.

In all honesty I prefer the old-style grid maps; although the blue on some of those old covers is really faded and washed-out. ^__^

Rob's hand-drawn maps were sold at auction by Paul Stormberg a few years ago. The maps are owned by Trigee/Gail, since Rob was writing under contract for Gary, so they're not likely to see the light of day anytime soon

I thought the cavern maps were pretty much goosed as well. I would love to see decent redrawn maps for this module; did anybody ever take up the challenge?

Not that I'm aware of: Dark Chateau doesn't seem to have attracted much of a following, which is a shame, since it's an excellent low-level adventure.

A pity; I am expecting my group to make another foray into the château at some point. It seems that I will have to redraw the maps myself!

The DC maps are some of the worst, IMO. In addition to the other layout and editing issues they had, they’re stylized to the point that the functionality suffers. The adventure content is very good though, but like the rest of CZ, there is unfinished business in there.

I don't recall seeng any glaring problems with the maps. I'll have to check it out this evening. I'd love to run a DC/CZ campaign sometime using 1st ed. rules. I like C&C well enough, but I know and love 1st ed. better.
