The latter, of course! I mean, this is Rob we're talking about...
Actually, to be fair, Rob has been very good with deadlines, lately--Dark Chateau for Troll Lord and two installments so far of Maure Castle for Paizo. I personally can't complain that this sets the CDs back. Regards.

Spoiler follows!
I've been running this for my cousin and his henchmen. As a DM I get a kick out of how magic resistance can fluster a player used to playing a powerful magic-user. Maylin the Wizard recently encountered the thresher demon guardian, which has 75% MR, and panic mode set in after the old go to, magic missile, fizzled. Three failed spells later, "WTF is this extremely powerful root". They ended up hacking their way through, but it beat on them for a while.

Its like these old threads are like balrogs of the ancient world. Whatever became of what the beginning of the thread was referring to the AD&D version of DARK DRUIDS? Or is that just the CREATIONS UNLIMITED version?

In retrospect, the whole Rob Kuntz universe is strange. This is a guy who was asked to continue a token game in place of a "campaign" that was originally a moneymaking playtest. Its like a catch 22, on one hand he wants it all to be about what he did but on the other hand he doesn't want to lose the connection to a name product.
For example, when we were playing the DARK DRUIDS with him, that same day he said DD was a Greyhawk adventure and the next day he said it wasn't.

I'm using the CU stat version. I have no idea what the new Black Blade version looks like. I really like Rob's style, and I wish he would put out more material, but he needs to write it himself. He's put out a few things that you can tell he's had other writers contributing, and the writing doesn't come close, there's a real drop in the quality.

Its like these old threads are like balrogs of the ancient world. Whatever became of what the beginning of the thread was referring to the AD&D version of DARK DRUIDS? Or is that just the CREATIONS UNLIMITED version? We're distributing the Chaotic Henchmen version of Dark Druid, but didn't publish it: see www.chaotichenchmen.com/p/dark-druids-by-robert-j-kuntz.html for details. (It's based on the expanded 1e/CU version that Rob published as a download several years ago via PPP, but never printed). I'm using the CU stat version. I have no idea what the new Black Blade version looks like. The CH version is very nice looking, but if you have the old PPP 1e/CU version, then you've got most of the content. That said, however, Guy completely edited and reorganized the adventure, and also added a ton of great art to it. So, if you want to have a printed copy, it's the best one to date. I really like Rob's style, and I wish he would put out more material, but he needs to write it himself. He's put out a few things that you can tell he's had other writers contributing, and the writing doesn't come close, there's a real drop in the quality. I'm curious which titles you think Rob didn't write himself, Scott? Other than Tower of Blood, and the various titles written by Eric Shook, I'm not aware of him doing much ghost writing for books that he published himself. The Paizo crew did beef up his work on Maure Castle, and that was more than just editing stats, but those are the only instances that I'm aware of, offhand. Allan.

It's not that Rob didn't write the adventures, the structure is Rob, it's some of the descriptive text/history is very bland. Tower of Blood is the big example. I'll have to dig out some of the other adventures for specific examples. Cairn of the Skeleton King didn't really grab me. The expanded material from Dark Druids was kind of meh. But maybe it is Rob, and he was in a rush, or distracted, etc.

I bought the hard copy from Black Blade and I second that recommendation.

Alright, I'm confused. BLACK BLADE is the same as CHAOTIC HENCHMEN? The link for Black Blade sells "old school renaissance" material: www.black-blade-publishing.com/Store.aspx I bought some of those years ago and I don't remember anything called "Black Blade". Is that new?

That's the same one I got. I bought it through the Black Blade website, but the module itself says "Chaotic Henchmen Productions."

Right: Jon Hershberger and I are Black Blade, and Guy Fullerton is Chaotic Henchmen. We've known Guy for several years, and he asked us to fulfill his orders for DD year-round, not just at gaming conventions. So, he published and printed DD, and we sell it and ship it on his behalf.
That help??
Allan.

My cousin's party is making some progress. It's a grinder just making it to the Dark Druids lair. I'm going to run it as a one shot and dump the Dark Quest series idea. I'm thinking about modifying the ending to include the Invulnerable Coat of Arnd and Yeenoghu and see see if he does any better than Jim Ward and Skip Williams did.

I have the final ms. in the Dark Quest series ("Vale of the Titans"), but I don't know if Rob wrote the others in the middle or not. Allan.

Wow, that's cool, Allan. I was really intrigued by the Dark Quest parts when I first read the description. Disappointed that they were never released.

I had forgotten that this ms. was the last in the DQ series, if I had even known it before, until I was flipping through Guy's edition and saw the rest of the series outlined at the end. That text does appear in the TLG edition, too, but again I had never made the connection. I asked Rob about the rest of the series, and he said that they were played BITD, but he only developed the first and final mss. at length.
Perhaps it can be published someday....
