Just a few quick thoughts:
1) G3's depiction of the EEG (tentacles, ancient abomination) seems reminiscent of Aboleth to me
2) All of us want to see a Gygaxified fifth level with the EEG in TOEE. What if an EEG temple like G3, etc. is present but it is run by an aboleth -- who uses Iuz, Zuggtmoy, elemental evil as a facade? I share the consensus view on this board that monte did a slapdash job on parts of the RTOEE project, but I am intrigued by the Aboleth ('third') that he had as one of the true leaders of the cult.
3) Night Below was a pretty mediocre crawl overall but I really like Shabaoth, the deep city of the aboleth. It would be easy to see it in the Sunless Sea area, along with the Vault of the Drow and Wolfgang Baur's White Kingdom of the Ghouls that was discussed in Dungeon magazine. After D3, what if the adventure trail led to finding out more about the EEG -- leading to Shabaoth for signs of the true location of the bulk of the physical location of the EEG. The physical location could be in the Sunless Sea on some island haunt. As someone mentioned on Dragonsfoot, the Yochlol would be more logical EEG creatures than Lolth creatures. Thus , this might be a better end to the 'G' series (or even a follow up to T1-T4) than Q1.
4) Believe it or not but there is a good writeup of the Aboleth in Lords of Madness, the 3.5e product covering abominations. It is about 20 pages long. It says they were formed by (but do not worship) elder Lovecraftian beings such as Cthulu, the Blood Queen, the EEG? Individual aboleth have 'racial' memory -- therefore, they could remember (vaguely) the time when the EEG walked Earth -- perhaps a very different, more primordial earth.
5) There is an obvious Far Realm tilt to the Aboleth. Should the triad EEG have or had some sort of Far Realm connection?
Sorry for the length.
