Well, the whole Trowbane thing is a long dragged out thing.
Here is the timeline:
In NIGHT ARRANT (1987) there was a collection of nine short stories each of which were supposed to appear in DRAGON if Gary (and the real fans) hadn't have been hornswoggled by the Forgotten Realmsers (Lorraine Williams' crew) in 1985. The evil was bound up in one ring... WAIT... thats something else...
These ongoing short stories were comparable to AT MOONSET BLACKCAT COMES/DRAGON CHESS (DRAGON #100 AUG 1985) in that they would have had an accompanying article related to new content or product:
"The Heart of Darkness" CASTLE GREYHAWK
"The Weird Occurrence in Odd Alley" PLANES book
"A Revel in Rel Mord" (Saint Trowbane) DEITIES & DEMIGODS (GREYHAWK MYTHOS) revision
"The Five Dragon Bowl" ORIENTAL ADVENTURES
"Twistbuck's Game" CITY OF GREYHAWK
"The House in the Tree" vicinity of CITY OF GREYHAWK
"Cats Versus Rats" CITY OF GREYHAWK
"Love Laughs at Locks" CITY OF GREYHAWK
"Cat or Pigeon?" CITY OF GREYHAWK perhaps an article on justice
Anyway, I had no idea of any of that so, when I referred to Saint Cuthbert as Saint Trowbane, Gary was like no way and went on with this spiel about "Unoerth". There was some kind online internet fanzine called OERTH JOURNAL in 2002 that was mostly composed by Craphawk fans that featured an interview with Gary Gygax that said the gods mentioned in the Gord books were just alternate names. I reminded him of that and his reaction was not really negative about it in anyway but he had said he had given them an answer that was good enough. Or something like that. Anyway we went over it again and I said I'm going to make a Greyhawk-like deity in the style of Greyhawk gods based on what you described but I'll do everything and you look it over. He was like fair enough. He said his hammer was too small but everthing else was great and make sure that we put my name on it too for a copyright. So it was a collaboration. The next step was going to be the trow race but after the whole thing went nuts. Threatening e-mails from nerd fans about my website being in violation. Of their nerdspace apparently!
Anyway it all went South then Gary started talking about me doing this comic book project so its no big deal to shut down the website about Greyhawk. The comic book never happened and then communication went shitter when he started to get sick. He later regretted being too busy with work to get back to me but by that time it was too late although the last year we talked a lot. Especially about that Rob...
Anyway the trow race was handled differently in LEJENDARY ADVENTURES BEATS OF LEJEND (2000) the beings he described were Greyhawk specific. Worshipping another guise of Nerull and being equally okay with devils and demons and being ugly not really elves not really dwarves with weird tool-like weapons.
