I'm all about how fun the power is. Not really. I've had a lot of fun playing underpowered characters. But I like it when a campaign reaches the point where you have some rival PCs who need to be on guard for each other, and then the power comes in handy.

Yeah... we had that happen a couple of times. Back in the 80s we had an 'evil' group (the Watchers) who decided to take out a 'good' group (the Guardians)... it was rather like the 'Cross and the Switchblade' or 'The Warriors' before it was over. But parts of it were fun enough that I translated some of the survivors into the Mythus campaign of the 90s!

In one campaign I had run some published modules, and then started into a free form action. One player had been very lucky throughout the campaign with rolls when dividing up the magic, and had quite a few items. Another player hired an assassin to kill the PC while he went after his henchman. His plan succeeded at first, but he left the bodies, and when some other party members raised them, the truth came out, and the PC who hatched the plan was killed, and burned to prevent him from ever being raised.

One incident which comes to mind is the protective diagram that the Guardians inlaid in the grounds about their castle complex... the evil group went invisible, poured vast quantities of flammable oil within the pattern in a different pattern, and then summoned nether-critters within the now-containment pattern. Much chaos ensued...

There were two Paladins (both righteously insufferable) in the Good group, and an Anti-Paladin (the only one ever--Drodgor) in the Evil group. Great times!

Straying from subject, but Drodgor was certainly inspired by J. D. Webster's "Grond" and played by a guy named Mark who had played trumpet at the jazz festival in Montreaux, Switzerland twice! ^__^
