Does anyone know if there are any computer programs based on the random dungeon generator of DMG fame?

Not that I know of, but I'm sure there is. I prefer to assign treasure myself, but I sometimes will run a strictly random campaign/session. When I do I prefer the treasure generator from the OD&D boxed set over the DMG method. Scott

I like to assign treasure on a case by case situation. What I would like is a dungeon generator to whip up some maps.

Better to steal and modify. I've seen a lot of computer generated maps, and they ain't always pretty. Scott

That random dungeon generator does indeed suck, but I think one sort of like it but based on the tables in the DMG (originally in TSR #1) could be better -- the main reasons that generator sucks is because (at least as far as I could tell from generating about a dozen maps) it doesn't allow rooms that aren't squares/rectangles, it doesn't allow corridors wider or narrower than 10', it doesn't allow diagonal or curved corridors, it doesn't allow chambers (rooms without doors), and it doesn't allow doors that don't lead to rooms (i.e. false doors or doors connecting two hallways). All of those possibilities are present in the DMG tables, and if they could be reflected by a random generator I imagine the results wouldn't be nearly so boring and sucky -- sure most of the maps would still suck, but the beauty of a computer-generator is that you can keep having it generate new ones until it comes up with something good (and, of course, ou can still modify it anyway). Much easier and less time consuming than spending a few hours drawing out a map by hand on graph-paper and only realizing at the end that your result sucks...

What would be really cool is a random generator that allowed you to zoom in on a particular sector of a map and 're-generate' it.

That is a great idea dcs. Maybe someone with the skill to program is reading this board and could pull off a DMG inspired random dungeon generator.
