Here’s a guideline I’m working on for missile weapon RoF per segment during surprise situations. These rates of fire can be modified by circumstances such as how accessible the weapons are, specialization, etc. Aklys (hurled): 1 every 2 Atlatl (javelin): 2 Axe, Hand: 3 Blowgun Needle: 3 Bow, Composite, Long: 3 Bow, Composite, Short: 3 Bow, Long: 3 Bow, Short: 3 Club: 3 Crossbow Hand: 1 every 2 Crossbow, Heavy: 1 per surprise situation Crossbow, Light: 1 every 2 Dagger: 3 Dart: 3 Hammer: 3 Harpoon: 3 Javelin: 3 Knife: 3 Lasso: 1 per surprise situation Sling: 2 Spear: 3 Staff Sling: 1
Opinion? Scott

Scotty G,
For dagger and club, would that be for a weapon in each hand, or could this be with a shield (thus a fighter with a club and shield gets 3 attacks in 1 seg of surprise). If the later how would this be effected with a club in either hand?
thanks,
Axe-

Throwing with both hands has never come up in my game, nor has a player having enough clubs handy to throw more than one. I might give one extra attack per segment if a player wanted to throw off hand, but I'd give a pretty steep to hit penalty. Scott

Interesting. I was going to opt for the ROF+1 but there are somethings on your list I tend to agree with more, sling for example.

I've been thinking about dropping both the sling and atlatl down to 1 per segment. Scott

Good guidelines Scott. We do a "normal rate of fire" + 1/2 (rounded up). Thus, if a rate of fire is 2, then you would get 3 (2 + 1(1/2 of 1) = 3). If the rate of fire is 1, then you get 2 (1 + 1 (1/2 of 1 rounded up tp 1) = 2). Maybe not the most realistic, but it is very simple.
