I want to go to Europe again eventually, but I was thinking Quebec might be my next location to visit. It's like visiting France without having to leave North America... Or the closest thing. Has anyone been there? Do you have any advice? Part of the charm for me is that H. P. Lovecraft visited three times and loved this city, and wrote a long description of it titled "A Description of the Town of Quebec" published in TO QUEBEC AND THE STARS (1976) by Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc. I've been to Canada before, but only barely -- to Niagara Falls twice and Toronto once. I'm not a francophile in particular, or a francophone, but I enjoy picking a challenging destination that has historical significance and then studying up on it prior to going there. The learning ahead of time is almost as much fun as the trip itself.

By now its most likely completely different. I have a whole slew of photos from my 1986 "trip to another country" around Montreal. Except for the under age strip club it was mostly just extremely rude French people (I still recall this thin man with a close to a mime outfit but without the makeup aggressively yelling "Fuckee! Fuckee! Americain!" based on that we didn't look ethnically French as a group. It was me, Taylor and my brother.). I recall eating at a mod Chinese restaurant that had melon soup which was good. I looked at old capitol buildings and climbed the mountain in the middle of the city.

Also the cadillac broke down in the suburbs and we were waiting outside the mechanic and some guy with a "hey, hoser" accent said the school across the street was where TJ Hooker (William Shatner) went to school. So I have a pic of me doing the Vulcan sign.

Ah, rude French people... almost-mimes... faux-antient architecture... It all sounds so enticing!
But seriously, I know it has become a very touristy place, but I'm still interested in the history (est. 1608). There is something about visiting the oldest settlements in North America. I visited St Augustine (est. 1565) when I was in Florida but didn't get to explore it as much as I wanted. That's another place Lovecraft visited. Another place I know he loved was Charleston, SC (est. 1670), but I've never been there yet... Even though I've bought many things from Palmetto State Armory online! I've flown in and out of Boston (est. 1630) but never really immersed myself in that city, either. In regards to pre-colonial settlements, I've been to Mexico City where is Tenochtitlan the capital of the Aztecs (est. circa 1325) and just northeast where I climbed the pyramids of Teotihuacan (first settlements est. circa 600 BC). Inspiration for Tamoachan down there!
