I'm thinking of going with the cleaned up old adventure from 1982 and maybe something new.

I'm still going over semantics of whether or not to run a game with random people but I guess I have to. The Dungeon Hobby Shop Museum seems alright on paper but looking at the website something seems like it won't be possible for me: tsrmuseum.com/Considering that I couldn't even arrange a game with EGG at the local library back in the early 2000s, the game space prices seem extremely high but appropriate for an exceptional "one time game" AIRBNB type situation. In Lake George, New York the lake town prices were through the roof for everything so I can just imagine with Lake Geneva being an immediate suburb of the Chicago area that prices are crippling. There seems to be old games on display and Jeff R. Leason giving backstories with an occasional appearance by Ernie Gygax. Considering the volume of people from the con that will be headed there while I would like to support Ernie's efforts I think I might clip any idea of going there out.

The Dungeon Hobby Shop Museum is on my list of places to visit during GaryCon 2022. Hopefully, it won't be cancelled again due to Omicron or some other COVID-19 variant... Can I get a cure disease over here? My friend Scott just got hit by a 'special attack'!

I'm still going but I've decided to not do the running of a game at least as an "event". I'll go and vet people person to person and see how it goes.

In the past two Ethereal Cons everyone I played with was pretty cool. No immature or disruptive sorts at all, and most people leaned towards old school gaming (AD&D, D&D or a clone like Swords & Wizardry). In one game, younger kids joined and the rest of the players let the kids take the lead which I thought was very cool. Overall, I'm impressed by the GaryCon crowd.

I'm just paranoid sometimes but I'd rather come in under the radar and off the grid at least involving running a game. I should have used a false name. Oh well its too late to register an event now.

I'm just paranoid sometimes but I'd rather come in under the radar and off the grid at least involving running a game. I should have used a false name. Oh well its too late to register an event now. You should have registered under a false name, wore glasses with a fake nose and a Human Torch T-shirt while DMing a "Quest for Saint Trowbane" adventure. "Hey, is that...? No, it can't be..." Hard to believe that GaryCon is coming up in two months... March 24-27. Event registration is next month! I'm looking forward to it. I've already requested the time off and paid for my flight and lodging. I'm flying in on Wednesday, March 23rd, and I'm planning on checking out the TSR Dungeon Hobby Shop Museum that day... Maybe I'll beat the rush! One thing I've learned for this year is to allow myself more free time. There is a tendency to want to pack every day with registered events. But I'm interested in roaming around and observing and seeing what pick up games there might be.

Yeah, even though, years ago, I did have someone that later turned out to be an internet hostile in my house for multiple sessions, I feel reluctant to have a repeat of that same energy because it lingered in my mind for some reason. So I just said fuck it lets just go under the radar rather than have some insincere participant... "Years ago, that internet forum was on a live feed in front of my entire family reunion which also included all of my co-workers. After reading your post, my father died of a heart attack, my boss fired me and my wife immediately filed for divorce. You Living Greyhawk-hating son-of-a-bitch...!!!". Seriously, I am at the point where I have enough fans of Broken Castle, there is like one month since it came out that it didn't sell at all but it just keeps going, that I believe random people on the fly would be interested in an adventure that I put together. I mean Rob's game in 2007 was a little awkward but nothing gets in the way of me D&D playing. I'm like a walking D&D game.

You can always run a Broken Castle pick up game... Bring extra copies to sell... Why not?
I'm still thinking of bringing a small terrain set up with miniatures, for something simple like a dungeon crawl pick up game. I have these Warlock Tiles now that are super light and durable, and fit in well with my Dwarven Forge and Hirst Arts custom jobs. Do I want to DM at all, or just play in others' games? I haven't yet decided. But I'm tempted to do something as a tribute to EGG.

I can see events but cannot register yet. Some events I would like to get in on are Darlene's card game, DEAD MAN'S CHEST by Heidi Gygax and OOKLAND by Tom Wham.

Thats what I was wondering about. Its like people wanting to fill out a bingo card and stamping any opening for their schedule that works to fit their amusement. I'd rather just do it on the fly where people have to engage to play or they won't. I seriously want the ball to be rolling before I even make a peep.

GaryCon requires proof of vaccination or proof you've tested negative in the past 72 hours, as well as masks, in order to pick up your badge.

That's what I saw. I told Dorothy that and she is insisting that I go. She said it's only money if I lose out with a last minute vax rule swap out. I didn't buy the pass/ticket yet though. I've been seeing this store with new D&D on shelves in front and tables in back at this mall every time that I go to the theater. Yesterday, I was going to go see some movie by myself and I figured I'd eat the Chinese food at the food court. I'm reading the review (nightmare alley) and they said go watch the original. So I was like great, so I decided to ask about how to arrange a game at the game store with all the tables in the back. Rent space? Well this how naive I was about this place. They have "events" only and it's a pass to enter and sit in. It's scheduled for card games for the duration anyway. You want to talk about getting "schooled"? I walked away like but... There goes that "public game option".

My friend Eric owns a hobby shop where he regularly hosts scheduled tournaments: mostly Heroclix tournaments on Saturdays. He occasionally lets people run other games on weeknights, like Dungeon Crawl Classics, Marvel Super Heroes, and Gamma World. I guess it depends on your relationship with the owner.

Yeah, I know that kind of deal but I was thinking it was like these places in Brooklyn where you rent the space but I guess not. The only problem playing at home is the kids are around and I've never been a "kid D&D" guy. If its not foulness and death what is the point of playing? Anyway the corona shit is preventing me from inviting strangers. Not because I'm afraid of it but I'd rather not deal with someone's issues. I have to tolerate (almost adult) kid's friends right now being picky about coming over and jumping if I sneeze.

So, they're not going to have table service? Not a big deal. I'm not into bar food anyway. It seems like they are worried about the people who pretend they're still eating or drinking so they can keep their masks off for extended periods of time. At this point, I'm neutral about the masks. The worst of the pandemic is behind us and the Omicron is less deadly. It is the unvaccinated who are putting themselves at the most risk, but since everyone attending Gary Con must show proof of vaccination or recent negative test I don't see much to be concerned about.

At this point, if someone coughed right down my throat then zero fucks would be given.

Well, this is crazy but I just got totally banned from the Gary Con group for a single comment about the details of their new mask rules and where can people smoke. What a disgrace and shame.
I immediately got a response when I went to check it didn't say anything just a void as if Facebook didn't work. Then later it said I was blocked out from even seeing Gary Con group much less be a member.
Here is the comment, that I backed up, now preserved for all time:
Dudes, I just got Mentzered hard... There is no coming back to this.
