I was communicating on Discord yesterday and I was like wow this is easy. Then I was like isn't GaryCon hotel reservation thing coming up so I failed logging into the forum again from the last time 2 years ago. So I contacted the admin and he said he would look into it. He also mentioned the forums aren't really used because everyone uses Facebook and Discord. Well, I didn't want to regain my dank crusty drama on Facebook again so I went to Gary Con Discord. Holy crap, I don't even know what I'm looking at. Long lists of call areas. So much for that idea.

I feel the same way. I'm finally getting to that age where new technology seems more difficult rather than better. "Why can't we just keep using forums since they always worked fine!" Next stage is "Old man yells at cloud." I've used Discord to join online games, but negotiating all of the channels and options is bewildering.
That reminds me I had a credit for the flight and bed and breakfast but I think that was only for 2021 so they must be expired or not usable for next Spring. But I'm not complaining as everyone has taken a financial hit from this thing and honestly me probably the least. That Seven Oaks place looked awesome and that's where I'm planning on staying for GaryCon 2022.

It is going to be a learning experience but might as well do it.

I was thinking about doing a seminar but I'm not sure if it's going to be a waste of energy.
Maybe run the same new tournament twice each day and get back to the basics.

I was thinking of bringing a mini-dungeon to DM at GaryCon, considering all of the terrain and miniature painting I've been doing lately. The idea is a party of pre-generated characters each with a miniature, and then custom terrain set pieces, all painted by me in advance. To honor EGG it would be set in the World of Greyhawk, with heraldry on shields or banners shown on the characters and/or the terrain. My players can help me playtest any scenario I write.

Well, that sounds good! I will probably go miniatureless and keep it all in the papers. Damn it!

The hotel reservations become available soon and the event submission closes by the end of the year. The events can have an age rating so that is cool. 45 and up or with parent's liability waiver... I'm thinking tourney style maybe Friday and Saturday maybe run shit on the fly Thursday and Sunday if possible.

My main reason for not registering an event is that I enjoy playing in other peoples' games so much, and especially to interact with those I've only read about out or seen online. In the past two years, I've got to play OD&D with Tim Kask, Basic D&D "Haunted Keep" and "Siege of Bodenburg" with Paul Stormberg, "Moosequest" card game with Tom Wham, and two adventures written and DMed by Jon Hook. I'm very fortunate! I still want to play "Jasmine: Battle for the Mid-Realm" with Darlene, any game I can get into with Ernie, Luke or any Gygax family member, and games by various others of the old guard like Mike Carr, Harold Johnson, Dave Megarry, etc. And of course I want to play in Allan and Gene's games!
But I've been loving the terrain and miniatures work so much that I kind of want to show it off so I'm about 50/50 right now... Maybe I'll make my game "for ages 50 and up" and you need to show your AARP card to get in...

Understandable, although I might want to just watch. Having watched a lot of the old timers game it was a much more enjoyable experience.

I just booked my travel to GaryCon for 2022. I wasn't planning on it, but when I was reading online today I saw there was a wild rush of reservations being made. The Grand Geneva got filled and people are mad about it. So, I just went ahead and booked my flight, rental car and B&B. I'm flying into O'Hare the morning of Wednesday, March 23rd, driving up to Lake Geneva to stay at Seven Oaks, and flying out the morning of Monday, March 28th. I had American Airlines miles saved up, so I got a free flight -- sweet!
If anyone needs rides, help setting up, etc. don't hesitate to ask. My cell phone # is 412-491-7842. I'll be staying at the "Canterbury" at Seven Oaks.
The nice thing about staying at the Grand Geneva I guess is that you could avoid getting a rental car. But I actually prefer having the rental car and don't mind driving.

I will be at "The Cove" where I last saw Gary alive.

The Cove was my second choice since they have full kitchens. I can't do junk food for 6 days in a row anymore. The place I'm staying at has a grill so I plan on doing steaks, BBQ, grilled veggies, etc.

I can understand that I have a tight diet with the gout.
Whole grains mostly but I can go off into Mc Crud every now and then.
Btw, beer is totally off and I've replaced with margaritas.

I am still having trouble figuring this out. We did the pre-interview on Discord and while those guys were helpful once I was on my own it was back to "DUH!" It took me two hours to figure out that GaryCon flags you for everything as if its a message. The solution was to read through everything on GaryCon by clicking on it. I'm considering going back on Facebook, at least for the convention, but I'll most likely burn out. Don't want anymore dusty relationships in modern times. Heh. I should say I was inspired by Rob to live in France!

I am back on Facebook/Instagram so I can get the relevant info from GaryCon but I am not looking people up just kicking back and hoping for the best. Hopefully, I can manage the build up to the trip without social media weirdness.
Right now I see Gary's son, Alex, wants to have some kind of a contest game. I was thinking about that but its not really me. The game is the game and relying on gimmicks is a handicap.

So, Gene, are you going to register any events for GARY CON or are you just going to run pick up games?
I was thinking of running a mini-dungeon with pregenerated characters set in the World of Greyhawk to honor EGG... Seems appropriate.

Thanks, its probably better to see the odd hours play out and adjust accordingly if possible. Don't want to be a "choice" over a classic personality. I'd be fine walking around meeting people but I'd like to put on something out at some point.
