I was thinking about miniatures for my monsters. Is it even possible to make a large sculpture and shrink it? I see a lot of custom companies but is that even viable?

I'm no expert but there are a lot of videos out there on custom 3d printing, which seems to be the wave of the future. For old fashioned techniques, I have friends who use green stuff and/or sculpey with reusable molds. The reusable molds also allow the copying of existing miniatures. The way they work is you you heat up the reusable mold to reshape it around a miniature, and when it cools it hardens enough to pour into to make a copy. Traditional miniatures are made of metal, or more rarely resin, and lately there have been a lot of plastic ones as well -- but so far I've only made them using Merlin's Magic dental stone and hydrostone. I suppose you could use the dremel to create wood prototypes. I've thought of sculpting clay as well but I'm not sure if that is hard enough.

I was looking the 3d scanners which seem to be high priced (thousands) the bigger that you go. So that's off for now at least. I'm going to create a workspace for miniatures. So I can do it in the off time. I definitely need to find a medium that works with my style. The wood work was not as easy as I thought. I think I might try the greenstuff then see how it comes out.
