Luke cancelled the Material (physical or in-person) Gary Con 2021, but confirmed we will again have an Ethereal (virtual or online) Gary Con like we did in 2020. This is disappointing but understandable. I had more fun that I expected to in the 2020 Con playing in games run by Paul Stormberg and Jon Hook. I also enjoyed watching Gene's video about BROKEN CASTLE, the Greyhawk Seminar, and the game session run by Jeff (ghul) Talanian played in by Luke Gygax and others. Who is planning on hosting games or events for the 2021 Con?

When is the date? March? I have zero privacy though so that might be a chore. I'll have to figure out the semantics.

I still need to submit my events, but I plan to run at least three, and I suppose I need to track down the seminar folks to see if we’re doing one again this year or not....

Ethereal Gary Con 2021 is from March 25-28. I was really hoping to go in person this year, but that was unrealistic considering that even the most optimistic vaccine roll out would start in December (which it did) -- but distribution takes several months to cover the entire population.
Hopefully, NecronomiCon will be in person this year. I had a great time at NecronomiCon 2019.

I'm going to try to get into a game or two. I'm sure the games I want will have high demand, so we'll see.

I got my Ethereal badge: $20.00 plus tax. It looks like having a Discord account is required this year -- that's free.

I have a discord account, got it for an online game that never materialized. Let me know what games you're trying to get into. I'll try to get in as well.

Event submission is still going on. After it is over, the events will be posted online for viewing. Event Registration starts from March 9th to March 17th depending on what kind of badge you have. I have Ethereal, so I can register on March 17th at Noon CT. I'd like to play in a game with one of the Gygaxes, but based on last year I think only Luke played online. I heard a comment from Luke that Ernie would not run games online. www.twitch.tv/garycon

Yes, I've talked to Ernie about playing online. He's very stubborn about it.

Never mind the edition choice, those fill-in-the-blank guidelines seem a little heavy-handed to work with. If it was more free then I'd try it. Does Luke Gygax play new age D&D? That seems weird.

I know Luke’s played 1E and 5E recently.

For all of the talk about how compatible 1E and 5E are, could you just write a 1E adventure, submit it, and not specify?

I think the edition appeal of "button pushing" has to met for it to win. Who are the judges?

For all of the talk about how compatible 1E and 5E are, could you just write a 1E adventure, submit it, and not specify? That's what I'm doing, but going 5E to 1E is the easier conversion, especially if you will be running for 5E gamers. And this one is tough. While most monsters are a pretty straight conversion, some are not. Lizard men, for example, are twice as tough in 5E as they were in 1E.

Don't know who the judges are. I believe the requirements are pretty straight forward.

Some of the challenges are: Writing an adventure that will fit into the 3 - 4 hr timeframe. Combat takes longer in 5E, so getting the balance of combat, roleplaying, and exploration right for the time slot will be tough. Spell casting is nerfed. A 5E spell casting BBG might not be as tough as your 1E mind thinks. All 5E classes have a lot more abilities than 1E classes. They're nor very complex individually, and 5E is pretty intuitive, but it's a lot to familiarize yourself with when jumping into a mid-high level scenario, rather than starting at 1st level and working your way up.

I'll probably be looking for play testers to try running this through once before submitting.

Yeah, it sounds like I'll definitely wait until it's more open to contribute to that.
That is another question. Just how how friendly is Garycon if it's this tight with the "Gary" for their events?

I still have to figure out what to do for the con at this point.
