Lately I’ve been thinking about revamping a Blackmoor adventure I ran several years ago. Originally it was pretty straight Blackmoor, but the tweaks are more of a blending of Greyhawk’s Blackmoor and the FFC version. The setup is that in the recent past, Greyhawk’s Blackmoor was more Like the FFC setup, but it was by waves of human and humanoid invaders, and it fell. The original town/castle were sacked, etc. It became a Bandit Kingdoms/Bone March like place with no real authority or order. The current Baron in Dantredun is more or less a bandit chieftain. Recently a alliance of races have set out to reclaim Blackmoor. The adventure starts out with the good guys just having retaken the original town and castle, but the leader of the evil forces that were occupying the place escaped into the dungeons beneath the castle, which are still infested by a host of monsters. The party has been assembled to go into the dungeons and capture/kill the escaped villain before he can organize a counterattack or summon reinforcements. It’s not a long term scenario. The BBG is not very deep in the dungeons. When I originally ran this I used OD&D, and I’m leaning towards that again, but I’m not set on it. Would anybody be interested in playing in an online game?

In the original version of this adventure the town/castle were pretty much as is from FFC. The baron discovered that one of his advisors was plotting against him. When an arrest was attempted he escaped into the dungeons. The party was sent to retrieve him before he could complete a ritual that would allow him to open a gate and bring in reinforcements. The party wasted a bunch of time and failed, and ended up being killed by the reinforcements.

I'd be up for a Blackmoor adventure. Wasn't the first ever "dungeon adventure" soldiers sent inside by the baron to get something or clear it out?

I think a party of men-at-arms were sent into the dungeons after a wizard that had done something bad (killed somebody or stolen something?) When I was talking to Dave Arneson he sent me Greg Svenson’s recollections of the story. I’m sure there are several versions floating around online.

I am going to keep it OD&D I think. I have the regular AD&D game I’ve been running. I’d like to use some online meeting/VTT options to try to rotate different mini-campaigns and one offs using different systems on the side. Or maybe eventually get some player time in if anybody else decides to run something.

I forgot what a mess the Blackmoor maps are. Nothing matches up level to level. It would be less work coming up with something original than trying to fix those maps. Maybe I’ll just use the Dungeons of Castle Geoporphus.
