I just had a zoom app meeting "party" with one of the 1980s DMs with a 1980s DM the reunification of the "Two Tims". Totally surreal. We might have a zoom game coming up but that remains to be seen.

I'm pretty lucky in that my gaming group includes people who have been gaming together almost consistently since the early 1980's. Eric, Ray and Brian started playing together in 1983. Eric first DMed for me in early 1984. Eric's wife Cindy started playing when Eric was attending the art institute in 1984. Scott met Eric when they were both working at Eides in the mid-80's. Wes and Randy played together and with Eric in the 80's but joined our current group in the early 90's, which is also when Mark and Scott joined. This core of players has been pretty steady since 1993.

Thats the original DM swap out sequence and others got added later but priorly around 1981-1983 where I built my style was mostly people coming and going which had absolutely nothing to do with the 1984 groupings. 1984 was a massive "nostalgia" run where it was playing the TSR letters through. This had zero to do with images of all those girls playing. That was my regular game of everybody and anybody but this was a grind of playing it as tournament-ish as possible. Both Tims were harsh and there was no room for my standard off the deep style play.

I haven’t talked to any of the guys in my original group in forever. I started playing with Eric, in my current group in 84, and I started DMing for my nephew Mike and my cousin Doug around 2000 when they were around 10 years old.

This open Zoom party on Facebook is random as hell though. I think that I just got lucky so far. I don't even know if I should keep doing that. I was going to do one tonight but while I was drinking last night my mind cringed at some combos.

Started playing OD&D & some basic D&D then quickly to DM’ing once the goldenrod DMG came out, then after I saw that was good, bought PHB 6th edition printed January 1980. I already had bought first edition AD&D monster manual in 1979 and was hooked

It's weird that I didn't intend for that dialogue to happen and the more that the drunkenness of it passes the realization is that I never pushed him away in the first place and he'll probably drop off the face of the Earth again.
There was this black hole that was created in my wake after I was gone out into education and career in the 90s. Wild partying that consumed people without my sobering perspective so they kind of dumbed out and became incompatible. This girl from that era I talked to about 15 years ago and she seemed to have degenerated all aspirations to be this mundane layabout. Hardly the person that readily made different rpg characters while chatting about interesting things.
I'm not sure if this will be as much of a revival as I sputtered out but I'll see.
