Thanks, guys, it is a little anti-climactic considering I sent it out days ago and had lots more free time to celebrate.
Hey, now I can spend more blog time.

Honestly? This is probably the coolest thing that I've ever done but I'm getting a lot of interest from people that I know who couldn't give a flying shit about playing D&D ever so its like: "What is this thing I've heard you made?" for the past 24 hours. UGGHH!! Of course, its all glib talk about it being a commodity comes up. I think I will know tomorrow how much it sold on the first day (Sunday) then it all gets added at end of month and royalty (half) comes in two months. The talk about marketing it at local stores is killing me. My friend wants me to do a book signing.

That's hilarious. Well, if they have no context they wouldn't understand this is a long term dream rather than simply a money-making plan.
"Gene's a published author now! He could be the next J. K. Rowling if only he would promote himself!"

The book signing thing would be cool for a hang out party in the summer maybe but I went to that Gygax magazine unboxing and there were people pushing in the door in the cold just to see that literally nothing was happening. July would be ideal for a Spinal Tap "where is everybody?". That way I can get totally loaded and crawl home...

Seriously, I was considering using it as an excuse to go to Garycon but honestly, does anybody go to that thing? Just seems like winter GenCon.

If you are going to try to market it more, GaryCon is a good idea. I've never been to it, but I understand it has a healthy draw, and that probably is your market: older gamers or at least those who like older versions of D&D, Gygax-specific fans, people who appreciate "do it yourself" creativity, etc.
Of course, the Port Hope Public Library in Ontario is at lot closer if you want to start a "GreenwoodCon" and do your book signing there...

Have you seen the guest list for next year's Garycon? I'd probably get a hotel room right next to Zeb Cook... GAAAHH! Actually, I might decide overlooking beating him with a copy of ORIENTAL ADVENTURES and GREYHAWK WARS... Just this time...

Seriously, I was considering using it as an excuse to go to Garycon but honestly, does anybody go to that thing? Just seems like winter GenCon. Yes, it's got about 2000-3000 attendees each year. So, still much smaller than GenCon. If you'd like us to carry the book in our Black Blade booth, we charge a 30% commission on sales, and could reasonably expect to sell up to 20-ish copies. We could also carry it at North Texas in June too. Allan.

I didn't get my copy yet. It is supposed to arrive on Monday. I've been tracking it on Amazon and it is has taken an oddly circuitous path from Chambersburg, PA to Bridgeport, NJ to Urbancrest, OH. This thing is like a wandering monster!
I was thinking of how to market this. I can imagine a lot of people leafing through it saying "this looks interesting but is too much money" not wanting to spend that much on an author or product they don't know. That could be a hurdle. Attending cons to promote it is a great idea, since you can talk to people about EGG, the history of D&D and a certain gaming style, etc. You could win people over and generate word of mouth. Maybe you could also sell it at a special discount for people at the cons just to get your product out there. Another idea is to create a separate, smaller product at a lower price point -- maybe a 30 or 40 page module set in the same fantasy world and linked to the BROKEN CASTLE product in some way. Too bad there is no nearly univerally read RPG magazine like DRAGON anymore, since placing an advertisement would be a good idea but costly. Perhaps you could get some gaming bloggers to review it by giving them free copies. It seems like you have to develop a fan base before you can make any real money.

I think small was the original plan then it snowballed into this full serve campaign out of habit of not leaving everything out and letting people hang.
I think the next aim is for a $9.99 thing
