2/9/2019 Session Report
Tonight we started the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth.
The Party:
Plāsolder: 7th level human fighter
Felborg: 5th level human thief (Plāsolder’s henchman)
Selkie; 6th level human paladin
Corbek: 8th level human cleric of St. Cuthbert
Jastra: 5th/7th level gray elf fighter/magic-user
Ember: 3rd level cleric of Pelor
Mironin: 2nd level human magic-user (Corbek’s henchman)
While resting at the Bristleback Inn in Grey Herron, the party was approached by a man introducing himself as Sir Thengal, a knight from the March of Bissel. Sir Thengal stated that he had heard tales of the party’s exploits, and he invited the party to come with him to Thornward in Bissel. The margrave also has a mission that the party may be interested in. The party agreed immediately, and the next day they were off for Thorward. The party, and Sir Thengal, made the journey on the party’s flying carpets (two 4 seaters). The journey was uneventful. The did fly over a band of orcs passing through the Kron Hills. They debated attacking them, but, at the urgings of Sir Thengal, decided to ignore them. Once in Thorward the party met Walgar, the Margrave of Bissel and learned of Iggwilv, the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, and Daoud’s Wondrous Lanthorn. The party members were not happy about the 15% treasure tax, but they agreed to undertake the mission. A week later they were heading into the Yatil Mountains. The party followed the trail from the air on their carpets. The ignored some bears, heeded the telepathic warning to ‘stay away’ sent by a group of giant eagles, and made it to the first trail intersection where they encountered a band of elves, a patrol from Highfolk. It was dusk and the party camped with the elves. The party did not reveal the specifics of their mission, just that they were working for the Margrave of Bissel. The elves accepted that. The next morning the elves headed Northwest while the party headed east. Soon after they found a trail that wasn’t shown on their map heading south, which they decided to take. The next day they spotted several ogres on the trail and attacked. The party killed them quickly, but didn’t search the area for a lair, so they got no loot. At the end of the next day the trail ended at the entrance of a cavern. The party searched the cavern and discovered a passage descending into the heart of the mountain. They decided to camp for the night and explore the cave in the morning.
The following day the party entered the cavern. After descending the long passage they found a narrow passage heading to their left, and the wider passage continuing straight for a short distance and opened up into a larger cavern. Their light glinted off of something in the cavern. They didn’t like the single file option, so they went straight. The cavern had six other exits with a face carved into the rock next to each exit, and there was something shiny in the mouth of each carved face. Before searching the room the party decided to head back and explore the narrow passage. After a short windy distance it opened up into a small cave. Upon entering the cavern a large flock of stirges descend on them from the ceiling. Thanks to several sleep spells the party killed the stirges without taking any damage. With no other options the party headed back to the cavern with the faces. While exploring the cavern they discovered that every face would say “Turn back… this is not the way” when you got close to it. While the faces were speaking the party could see that the shiny things in their mouths were gems. Felborg tried grabbing one and got bit for his efforts. Nobody else tried. The party decided to try a narrow passage to the east of the passage they entered the cavern from. After a short distance they detected the presence of thousand of bats above them, so they turned around and picked another passage. They ended up in a cave filled with underground fungi, and giant crickets. They could see several other exits, so they entered the cave, The crickets began a deafening chirping. The party killed them quickly, but the noise attracted four trolls from a nearby cave. The trolls inflicted large amounts of damage on the party before they finally managed to cut them into pieces and burn them. They were in such bad shape after the fight with the trolls they immediately retreated to their camp to rest and heal, which is where we ended it for the night.
